This image grew organically from the “Chiefs wife”. I was thinking of the regal aloof nature of the African queen, which I had drawn earlier and then I thought of the scary twighlight world of the Sangoma, or witchdoctor, in juxtapostion to this calmer world. Sort of like the yin/yang, good and evil aspects that co-exist within each of us.

“Spirit Land” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © Early morning fog is clearing exposing the ghostly forms of trees in a bare landscape backed by a distant mountain range. Have you ever….” / ~ R Frankland Spirit Land was featured in the: Landscape and Abstract Photography Goup – September 08 Trees Group – September 08
This is all that remains of a very old, rather long pier at Clifton Springs that sailing ships used to berth at 100+ years ago when bring passengers to the ‘healing waters’ of the natural springs in the area during that era.
After too many millennia without Her, She is finally rising into our consciousness again… I borrowed this wonderful image from Mark Peterson and added a photo and an Apophysis layer to it. If you like what you see here please go and check out the rest of his great work.

We are here we want to be there – we always think with the past in mind. Even when we try to understand something new we try to refer it to past theories, facts, formula and then try to put meaning to the new experience. And this is where we become blind to new ideas, concepts, theories etc. / / / MCN:CVTGD-2VTX5-WQM11 © Imber 2009. Watercolour painting / 300g / 30cm x 21cm
Pastel on pastel paper. Inspired by the word “inscrutable”! I’‘ve always been fascinated by the expressions on peoples faces! Some peoples facial expressions are like an open book! However others hide behind a permanant mask!! It’s the latter that intrigue me the most! Hence “Behind the Mask”! / / featured in Mature Woman
Some curious beasts indeed! First time drawing horses…as an adult anyway. I used to draw them all the time as a kid. Not quite like this though. Watercolour, ink and chalk pastel on canvas.
Title: Innocent Partner / Medium: Acrylic on stretched canvas / Size: 500mm x 600mm / 2nd Prize winner in the Dunedin International Airport Art Awards / Original SOLD This was a painting I recently finished. It was an art challenge held by the New Zealand Art Guild. Four things ha to be incorporated in an artwork, they were: / innocence, orange, umbrella and triangle. Here is Little Red Riding Hood (the innocent) although she doesn’t look it here…with the Big Bad Wolf who has offered her shelter under his umbrella as it has started to snow again. She is on her way to take some fruit (orange amongst them) to her elderly Grandma who lives in a cottage deep in the forest. I wanted to interpret ‘triangle’ in the three character relationship i.e. Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandma and the Big Bad Wolf. Alternatively sections of the umbrella are triangular in shape.
