been reading about tribal child raising and the benefits, and we know I like birds… I began this art as abstract patterns, bubbles of pattern that transformed when I realised by putting a ‘fork in the road’ to the concentric circles, that I created an eye and beak. Before that, it could’ve been shown either way up. also, it transformed from earthy brown colours, to a colourful bird. ‘Is it art? ‘my teacher used to always question. He’s not here now. He’s just asking the question still! in my head! I like it-it’s bright, colouful and alive.

I finally got to paint this from my digital manipulation, Don’t Give Up Searching . I’m so pleased with the result. I used a few different textures and oil paint and made the eye brown rather then blue so that the image was unified in pallet to suit a college project so that I could paint this particular piece without abandoning duty. / UPDATE- / In 2008 this painting was STOLEN. / It was being displayed in Bentley Pines Restaurant with a group of other art from fellow students. toward the end of the year the restaurant went though refurbishments and stored the works in a disabled toilets :/ we were asked to collect the work but this painting had already gone before it could be collected. Ive contacted all the people in charge and been forwarded around like a telstra customer on hold and still haven’t gotten it back. :(

Like my kitten image I wanted to paint this little dog with some fantasy flair. This dog is basically my creation I don’t know if there are any dogs that look exactly like this in the world, I’m sure definitely not this colorful. I looked at a few photos of puppies and dogs to get ideas of what type of dog I wanted to create and paint. I played with different colors until I got a result that I liked. I wanted this dog to look very cute and mysterious much like my kitten image.

I took this picture a couple of years ago at the beach of Marina di Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy. / This is a fine example I think of how a fisheye lens can completely change the feeling of an ordinary scene. The subject is simply some surf on the seashore, captured from a distance of not more than a foot. / The original picture is a Fuji Velvia 50 Iso medium format slide. A free-range baby orangutan sucking its thumb in Singapore Zoo, Singapore. This critically endangered species demonstrates significant intelligence, with an ability to reason and think. The orangutan is closest relatives, sharing 97% of the same DNA as humans. I’ve been to Borneo (Dec 2007) and was shocked at the amount of jungle cleared to make way for palm oil plantations. Close your eyes, and imagine flying into Sandakan on the east coast – as far as you can see there are rows upon rows of palm trees. Rows upon rows. Then more rows upon rows. Then more rows upon rows. “Orangutans are one of the most critically endangered of the great apes, due to poaching and habitat loss. A dragonfly is a type of insect belonging to the order Odonata, the suborder Epiprocta or, in the strict sense, the infraorder Anisoptera. It is characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, and an elongated body. Dragonflies are similar to damselflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most dragonflies are held away from, and perpendicular to, the body when at rest. Even though dragonflies possess 6 legs like any other insect, they are not capable of walking. Dragonflies are also the fastest flying insect. Dragonflies are valuable predators that eat mosquitoes, and other small insects like flies, bees, ants and butterflies. / the real me / for the Happy Challenge – my happiness rating out of 10 points is 7.5 gradually inching my way up to 10 lol / / original pencil drawing (coloured in photoshop) / Yesterday I added “Spectrum 7.0” to red bubble but have since renamed it Inner Child as after I talked with you all and listened to your comments, the title seemed more appropriate. I just wasn’t so happy with “Inner Child”... i felt i must be able to do something better than that, and Paul McClintock’s brilliant portrait, inspired me so much, that i forgot to go shopping today, am still in my pj’s and pushed myself hard to produce something more professional and more worthy of the challenge. So here’s my new self portrait for the Happy Challenge in which you have to rate yourself on a scale from 1-10 (1 being seriously depressed, 10 being the happiest) and then create self-portrait expressing that state. Any artistic medium/technique is allowed. It’s called …..’as I am’ I drew this from a photograph I have from one of my avatars, i did what Paul said he did, worked from looking at it on the computer, and was able to create a better likeness this way, than from trying to draw myself ‘live’ in the mirror. I tell you what, it’s the scariest process for me to try, because i get so down if i stuff things up, and with a portrait there’s no room for really making a mess of it, you just have to get a likeness in there…. I am very very very proud of this… I am definitely a little plumper, but there is something very much me here…I hope you like it… The challenge doesn’t open for another 5 hours so get your pencils out everyone and start your portraits!! :) In the portrait I am wearing one of my favourite necklaces which is a glass disc with art by Frozenfa called Dear Pillow from her Silentcries gallery here on Red Bubble The Challenge is opens for entries soon. Algonquin Park Ontario, CANADA / September 26th 2009 / Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens We first came upon Roxy sitting in the middle of the road in front of the ranger station and entry gate to Algonquin Park, northeast side, on the way to Grand Lake. As soon as we parked, she approached us and alternately scampered about the parking lot. / She was so sweet and kept quickly coming close to me to inspect what I was doing as I madly tried to capture her image with the zoom lens I had on the camera. / I loved the gentle inquisitive look in her eyes. I really wanted to pet her but knew better, despite my compulsion to name this little red fox, she is a wild animal with very pointy little teeth.
