  • Brough Superior is a name well know in the British motorcycle world. Less well known is that George Brough also built a small number of cars between 1935 and 1939. / / This was spotted at the Port Sunlight Festival, 27th July 08, as part of the vintage and classic car display. / / It is, very likely, a 4 litre, straight 8 with a top speed of 90 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 10 seconds. Often described as the ‘poor man’s Rolls Royce’, it was the car to been seen in during that immediate pre-war era. / / “Superior” was a reference by George Brough to his machines’ superiority over those manufactured by his father, William E.   • A magnificent three tiered cast iron fountain from the Colebrookdale (UK) factory was installed near the Nightingale Wing in 1907 and dedicated to the memory of (Lionel) Robert Brough. The design comprises a group of brolgas surmounted by black swans displaying their crimson beaks. / Robert Brough (1857 – 1906) actor, was born in England and made his debut there as a comedian in 1870. In 1885, he and his actress wife, Florence Trevelyn, travelled to Australia where their combined talents, particularly in the field of musical comedy, endeared them to Australian audiences. / The following wording is taken from the Sydney Hospital 1907 Annual Report: / When the late Mr Robert Brough died there was an immediate response, initiated amongst his friends, to give practical effect to the respect and affection which was felt towards him. It was decided to place in the northern quadrangle of the hospital, a Memorial Fountain and on 18th November 1907, this fountain was unveiled by the Hon The Premier, CG Wade Esq MLA. The fountain bears the following simple inscription ‘In memory of Robert Brough’. The fountain is a fitting and permanent expression of the feelings of those who admired and loved the late Mr Brough.   • Brough Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Brough, Cumbria ,England. / The first castle was built by William Rufus in the 1090s, as a stone motte and bailey in the north part of the former fort. / One of the first stone castles to be built in Britain, the walls show the herringbone pattern typical of Norman architecture. / Brough Castle first came under serious attack in 1174, during a raid on England by the Scottish king William the Lion, in support of the Revolt of 1173-1174.
