The time is upon us, yet again, as we look within ourselves to find the new source of Light and regeneration. The Light returns as the Sun shifts and starts moving northward again…Winter! / In the circle of life, Winter represents the North direction, the place of our elders, the ancestors and knowledge. It is the time to honor our growth, by celebrating it and sharing it with others. It is the time when Nature throws you into yourself, so that you have to explore territory that might otherwise be unfamiliar. During this time, we acknowledge the Mother Earth’s renewal, when she’s lying dormant, seemingly asleep and the seeds of one season lie in the Earth energy that will allow them to burst forth into new life, when the warmth of the Sun returns from the South to warm her. / We gather our family and friends together to share and experience the knowledge of “All the Ages”, combining our strengths, talents and abilities to achieve Peace, Balance and Harmony… Seasons of the Heart Wishing each and everyone a Blessed Season of Joy, brotherhood/sisterhood and PEACE!!! I took this photo of my husband Tommy and his brother Jerry as they returned from fishing at Toledo Bend Lake in Louisiana. It was almost dark; the last colors in the sky were about to fade. It was such a serene moment I wanted to hold onto it forever. This photo reminds me of the close bond Tommy and Jerry have always had and always will have. To me, they represent the brotherhood of mankind, sharing the “boat” of life on planet earth. Oh, that we could all live in the peace and harmony Tommy and Jerry share!
My dear brother Kumar was recently approached by Robert Matthews of the Freedom in Words group to come up with a series (under the eyes of the group) on how to become an artist… Kumar and I have discussed our “R”evolution (as in the dance of life) being a process of change in a particular direction, perception or thought pattern. / We agreed I would kick off the idea with this piece of artwork representing ‘United Thought’: as we join, combine and corporate to form a single “WHOLE”, we connect closer to the Universal energy of totality. The known objects and phenomena that all existing things, including the Earth and it’s creatures, the heavenly bodies, and everything throughout space – is affected by us, involves us all, and concerns us to act for the good of all – we would experience a new sense of power. Not in the capacity to possess control or command over others, but ascend to being effective in force. / “WE” as united spirits have the power and ability to produce valid results, in effect, begin to function as the humans we were intended to be – HUMANE! Humane is characterized as being tender, compassionate, merciful, kind, gentle, charitable, creative and sympathetic. / In my own artistic pursuits, I consider the creative force my dharma (sanskrit word meaning one’s righteous duty or virtuous path) which literally translates to ‘that which upholds or supports’, my own path to achieving UNITY in thought, action and deed. This artwork was created on a blank white canvas in photoshop with my Wacom Graphic pad/pen, edited/colored in photoshop and Redfield fractilius plug-in specifically for this endeavor. United we stand-Brotherhood of man

The 21st Century has arrived. We have said ‘sorry’ to our indigenous population. There’s talk of a republic. So here’s my suggestion for a new flag. An INTERIM flag for using on the way to the great republic that shall unite all brothers – regardless of colour, origins or sexual preferences. It’s not the ultimate australian flag. It’s an interim one. Which means we could have it for the next 100 years. Assuming anyone anywhere liked it enough to even think of using it. I just thought it time to throw something in the mix…. Do not be shy. Break the rules and comment your opinions – good or bad. I invite honest comment and debate.

This is my Big Brother / RICHARD THE LION HEARTED. I LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY SOUL. / Where I come from (Memphis) he is what we call a “stone, bone bad-ass” a street warrior--and all of my life he has had my back. He was named after the Lion Heart-he has lived up to it since the first time he found out his fists were his friends, as a small child. / My very first memory is of Rick rescuing me from black kids who were throwing rocks at us-just because we were white. Racial violence is my first memory in this life. I was being hit with stones as a toddler still in diapers. This was Memphis in 1959-nothing has changed there-only now-they throw bullets instead. / He could rough me up-but-woe be unto anyone else who thought they could. Woe be unto anyone who thinks they can touch me now-he still has my back. / Rick still has a Lion’s Heart to this day. / His Greatest Battle has been with Epilepsy, since his first seizure when he was 12, I became his keeper. I spent my childhood and teenage life waking often at night; jumping off my top bunk to take care of-and to hold him, as his body locked up in the convulsing hell inside of him. / I held him again twenty years ago-standing next to a decorated box-a treasure chest covered in flowers-that held the love of his young life; and the mother of his two small children. I got his back again-I’ve still got his back now. Recently I held him in my arms as he fought off yet another seizure-for the first time in decades I found myself in that same familiar spot-fighting the same Dragon-again. / I created this image in honor of my Precious Lion Hearted Big Brother. His birthday is coming up on January 25th. He is Sacred to me. He will die for me-I will die for him. Now look into those flaming eyes-and ask yourself-do you really want to test-the fire raging inside this man? We are Crum’s and we are bonded by blood and tempered by many fires—we are Brother Warriors!
St. Francis referred to his animal friends as brothers and sisters. One day, this crow landed on the statue of St. Francis that stands over a fountain in my backyard. I recollected the stories of the great saint and of his comradeship with all of nature and composed this little conversational poem that might have transpired between Brother Francis and Brother Crow. I’d like to dedicate this to my friend, Father Charles Faso, O.F.M., a Franciscan priest and storyteller extraordinaire!
I took a photo today of a stalwart looking cardinal perched on an iron post in the pouring rain. He looked drenched yet majestic in the downpour. Nothing was going to daunt his spirits. I coupled this image with this wonderful quotation and I think it would be suitable not only as a possible Valentine card but for a multiplicity of purposes, especially as we acknowledge our need for each other in the brotherhood of mankind. We may be “drenched” by the problems that face our world, but brotherly love brings out the majestic nature that can be ours. As the week dedicated to prayer for unity comes to an end, this is a fitting thought to consider.
‘Friendship’ is from a Hopi petroglyph in Arizona. The form of it is likened to the joining of the forefingers of two individuals in brotherhood/sisterhood. I am making a sincere effort to present these designs as they originally appeared, with a wee bit of stylizing on my part. This series of tees is intended to honor the ancient ones and the art they left behind for us.
