Ink, watercolour and pencil drawing on paper. / Illustration I did whilst reading the book Wicked by Gregory Maguire. / Chistery is Elphaba’s beloved monkey whom she later sews wings onto. I really don’t like this drawing but I thinks it’s the closest I got to visualizing how sweet and innocent Chistery is in the book.

This started out as an entry for a Halloween competition – but the theme was ‘Horror’ and this turned out to be quite the opposite I think! The Witch and her Black Cat are off to ‘who knows where’ on the night of All Hallows … Her feline companion is obviously a novice to the art of broomstick riding – so she turns to lend a steadying hand to her familiar as they glide across the beautiful moonlit sky….. Pendle Witch Country, in the Lancashire Pennines, is an area lying between (but also including) the north western edge of Bronte Country and the Ribble Valley, to the north and north east of which are Bowland, and the south western Yorkshire Dales respectively. The area is dominated by the dark brooding mass of Pendle Hill (shown above) and made famous (nay infamous) for its grim and fiendish association with the “Witches of Pendle”...

This image was one of those images that started from something realy small. When my children broke up for the holidays they had this look of were free. writen all other them and some how that slipped into my mind when drawing this. / I can remember longing for the holidays and i think the consept would stand for anyone. Here a young witch has straped all her things onto her broom and head off for home under the light of the moon. / And it reminds me of when i first came across Harry Potter and this world where witchs were not realy noticed, but had this world outside the norm.

A construction for a friend who used the moon/witch portion as an avatar. Thought I’d post it up just for hallowe’en. My other contribution is the short written work, Sweet Death which is helping to flavour the Sugar High Challenge Note. Available in all sizes including POSTER size.

Encaustic Art on white card. This is a technique where the card is swiped through coloured melted wax on a hot plate. It is always exciting to see what the result is.
