  • A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities – this is a little nook in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Gladesville Mental Hospital (formerly Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum) operated from c.1838- Surviving records cover c.1822-1985 In 1838 the lunatic asylum was moved from Liverpool to Tarban Creek, Gladesville and the first patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory, Parramatta. It accepted patients from Victoria up until 1848 when the Yarra Bend asylum was opened. By the mid 1960s the institution was known simply as Gladesville Hospital. In 1993 premises at Gladesville Hospital and Macquarie Hospital were revoked as hospitals, and were amalgamated to form the Gladesville Macquarie Hospital. HDR image processed in Photomatix from a single jpeg (with 3 exposures 1/3) then finished in CS3. FIRST TIME PUBLISHED / When I looked outside my restaurant in Broome I saw two cowboyheads sitting on the tables outside and I had a strong urge to make some photo’s. I spook to the two men they where from Fitzroy Crossing. They where watching a crowd of Indeginous Aboriginal men and women ‘hanging’ outside in the Plaza. They where waiting for the local liquorshop to open, In Fitzroy is now a ‘ban’ on alcohol, they told me, so Fitzroy Crossing is now a ‘dry’ Community Miss. / Broome, Western Australia. / Today I received an email stating; CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR IMAGE ‘TYPAN’ is one of 55 images from the PEOPLE & PLANET International Photo Competition. to be published in the 2009 People&Planet; Social Justice & Enviroment Diary, which will be published this month in Australia (2009). / We thought that your image was incredible, and it won from a pool of OVER 1000 images from 316 photographers from around the World! / All funds raised by the People&Planet diary go to Australia’s small non profit organisations which are working to promote social-justice and environmental substainability around the world. /

  • Sun Pictures
    by Chanel2

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Sun Pictures was first opened on December the 9th, 1916. ‘Fairy’ a local personality and pianist would play during the silent screening performances. Sound came to the theatre in 1933. “During the 1939-45 war, not long after Broome was bombed, I was serving with army transport in the area, Pictures were shown in the current Garden theatre. Apparently there was only one projector and the operator had difficulty in changing the reel, which was quite often. Sometimes it took twenty to thirty minutes to change reels. During those periods they played a record – they only had one, which was called ‘You look like a monkey when you grow old’. This was played over and over until the movie could continue.” / J O’Mara Ballajura W.A. From and more reading here When I visited this very interesting theatre in Broome, Western Australia, I bumped into an elderly lady whom used to come here when she was a child. I so enjoyed hearing her own stories.

  • Halloween
    by Tom Godfrey

    US$4.32–US$98.80

The Witching Hour…..either that ,or botox and too much smoking really isn’t good for your looks:) I drew this in pencil last night ,when I couldn’t sleep (not surprising with that in my head :)) and when I was completing it in Painter, I decided to leave a lot of the pencil work untouched, just to add a little freshness and contrast to the design. Anyway it was fun and one of the quickest Iv’e done. /
