At the Phillipsburg, Kansas 2007 Rodeo. Wish I had a larger file of it. I didn’t have a computer at the time and the file was made smaller to not take up too much space on my dad’s palm pilot. I should of have him save it to a cd but I don’t think he could of from work.

Rodeo pickup riders have the crazy job of catching the broncs after the bronc rider has been bucked off, all while thundering around the dusty arena at a gallop. The color and action are intense – here, a red-shirted cowboy on a good-looking palomino mount leans over to grab the lead-rope on a liver saddle bronc.

I love rodeos, but never thought of trying to take photos at one. I was always whooping and hollering too much. But friends convinced me to give it a try, so off to Sonoita, AZ’s 94th Annual Rodeo. I was surprised when I got a few useable shots. Most of them were pure luck, like this one. Frédérick-French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, was commissioned by the French authorities to carry out this giant sculpture that donate to the city of New York to mark the centenary of the Independence of the United States in 1886. The structural engineer Maurice Koechlin, author also of the structural design of the famous Eiffel Tower, build the skeleton to form the basis for the French sculptor carve the 350 pieces that make up the work. The sculpture was built in France at the workshop in 1884 and dismantled for parts arrive by ship to New York in 1885. The famous drawing (Skyline) today offered the city’s skyscrapers of Manhattan, can be seen also from the island itself. The 350 copper panels have a thickness of 2.37 mm each and are the material of the huge sculpture, along with steel internal structure that supports it. A museum is located inside the pedestal that would fund various sources of the United States of America. Corrosion caused by the weather of the place, is offered by the green color characteristic of the statue. In 1984 the Statue of Liberty would be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The famous statue would be inaugurated on 28 October 1886, and today is a symbol of the island of Manhattan. The statue holds in her right hand a torch covered in gold. In his left hand the statue holds a table with the inscription "July IV MDCCLXXVI" (July 4, 1,776), the day that America declared independence.
