Today I received my delivery of Calendars.. a good thing you might think?? However, I had to pay, at the door, an additional amount of £24.76 G.B.P… this is on an order that originally only cost me £27.00 GBP.!!!! This was a charge made by the good old British Government covering Import VAT and charges. So my fellow Bubblers beware the Great British rip-off!.. My calendars have each cost me almost double the original price.. I am so disappointed.. Bahhhh Humbug!

Dear Milkman, I’ve just had a baby, please leave another one. / Cancel one pint after the day after today. Please don’t leave any more milk. All they do is drink it. Milkman, please close the gate behind you because the birds keep pecking the tops off the milk. Sorry about yesterday’s note. I didn’t mean one egg and a dozen pints, but the other way round. When you leave my milk knock on my bedroom window and wake me because I want you to give me a hand to turn the mattress. Please knock. My TV’s broken down and I missed last night’s Coronation Street . If you saw it, will you tell me what happened over a cup of tea. Please send me a form for cheap milk, for I have a baby two months old and did not know about it until a neighbour told me. From now on please leave two pints every other day and one pint on the days in between, except Wednesdays and Saturdays when I don’t want any milk. Please leave no milk today. When I say today, I mean tomorrow, for I wrote this note yesterday. When you leave the milk please put the coal on the boiler, let dog out and put newspaper inside the screen door. PS. Don’t leave any milk. No milk. Please do not leave milk at No. 14 either as he is dead until further notice.

Well, this is where we are headed for vacation this summer (August) – Vancouver Island British Columbia CA on MacKenzie Beach, and Mt.Rainier, Mt. St. Helen’s, and the Olympic Peninsula (Hoh Rainforest and LaPush Beach) in Washington State. Not where I was planning to be (originally wanted to go to Scotland and Ireland but the dollar is so poor and the flights are very expensive and almost none existent) but this is how it worked out. You can be sure I will make the best of every photo opportunity. I have been to this area many, many, many times and just love it. My family has never been here before but I know they will just love it. ....Hiking, kayaking, more hiking….... oh did I mention photography for me…..?

Truly amazing stuff. “A series of different representations, using ultrasound scans and computer graphics, have been created for a documentary called Animals in the Womb.” Showtimes will vary. Today, the school took a small group of art/photography students to see the exhibitions in Norwich of a lot of college peoples’ works. It was a great experience, really inspirational (even if my knees are killing me now). We got tons and tons of free postcards, which is always great, so now I’m sitting looking at them. I tried to put them into some sort of heirarchy, from those I disliked to those I adored. I found something strange. Although a few of my top ones were highly visual, two of them were written. One was part of a poem, written on notepaper and then photographed; and the other, possibly my favourite of the whole lot, simply said this: “the sound of / raindrops f a l l i n g” I suppose that says more about me than anything else, but it raises an interesting point. I’m resolved now to try some visual poetry, or at least visual phrasing. Going to an exhibition such as this is a great oppurtunity to get some real inspiration and think about what you want from your art. In other news, this Wednesday I’ll be going to the British Grand Prix. Since I’m a marshall there I get pit access and get to do the track walk, so although I won’t be able to reply to any comments or suchlike, I should be able to return with a healthy stack of new prints :)

  • JUNE bi-polar, British and Global weather, an old friend on my mind
    by noinvisiblehand

I wrote something in 2001 which really struck a chord with me when I read my old journal last week: ‘A smaller world with less mystery makes for a very miserable youth.’ I’ m getting a bit peeved with this British weather, although, after having lived on this ‘Godforsaken Island’ (not mine, but a very old friend’s, words) I’ve got into the gentle art of talking about the weather. My lover called drizzle almost mist, mizzle. I have added that when it’s gusty heavy drizzle, it spatchering. Any other ideas anywhere for how the weather seems? I know that in Canberra, the weather is hot one minute, cold the next. And that in Seattle, Mount Ranier lives up to its reputation. In Jo’burg, the old summer thunderstorms seem to be a thing of the past. Winters always were dry when I’s a child, but now they are wet, this winter at least, I’ve been told by my folks. Here, in Britain, Mr Brown is trying to force through dracanion legislation that would allow police to hold suspected terrorists for 42 days. This, I predict, would fuel, not negate, the problem at the grassroots level. Social cohesion is a tricky problem, but one that needs thought from every citizen of the world. War is natural. Peace isn’t. But peace is a good place to aspire to be, just like I wish we all lived within the carbon cycle. Pipe dreams? Well… 9th June 2008 I’m feeling all tummy tied. I just got an angry e-mail from an old neglected friend who told me to say something worthwhile or honest, or else shut up. I wonder, am I being honest here? I’ve already talked about compulsive lying… About how I pretended to be HIV positive, about how I pretended my mother had died. I was a real shit, but I wasn’t doing it with malice. I never got out of childhood mode. Not that I’m not taking responsibility for it all. I take full responsibility, regardless of the contributing factors. I could have won an oscar. But I’m all tied up right now, tummy knots, like just before exams. That Catholic sense of guilt will never leave me, I’ll always feel guilty. I’ll go and listen to Kate Bush’s Ariel, me thinks. 13 June Started a new job as a chef in a youth hostel this week, and these young things, moody and atiitude full as only British teenagers can be, seem to like my food. I haven’t described bi-polar yet, have I? It’s a mental illness which affects about one in a hundred. It makes me go over the top every now and again, and really under the weather at others. When I’m really high, I think I’m Jesus (no jokes). When I’m really low I lose the drive to survive. Somewhere I’ve got a better description, but for now, that’ll have to do.
