In Edinburgh for my husbands 30th birthday, a little worse for wear! An absolute blast of a vacation in the lovely historic city. So much still to see! / Here is my husband Craig on the left and his father John Docherty on the right. John returning during his visit to old haunts from childhood, his memories of Edinburgh and Bonyrigg. We have started a heritage scrapbook and as such are looking at family tree and connections for Docherty/Campsie family. Anyone ideas?

This is another entry for the London Calling Challenge... A commentary on the arrogance of a ruling empire that once was… Everyone has done it, but none so effectively as the tiny island that is England and all ruled from the city of London – the heart of the machine! / __________ Rule Britannia / a poem by James Thompson When Britain first, at heaven’s command, / Arose from out the azure main; / This was the charter of the land, / And guardian Angels sung this strain: Rule, Britannia, rule the waves; / Britons never will be slaves. The nations, not so blest as thee, / Must, in their turns, to tyrants fall: / While thou shalt flourish great and free, / The dread and envy of them all. Still more majestic shalt thou rise, / More dreadful, from each foreign stroke: / As the loud blast that tears the skies, / Serves but to root thy native oak. Thee haughty tyrants ne’er shall tame: / All their attempts to bend thee down, / Will but arouse thy generous flame; / But work their woe, and thy renown. To thee belongs the rural reign; / Thy cities shall with commerce shine: / All thine shall be the subject main, / And every shore it circles thine. The Muses, still with freedom found, / Shall to thy happy coast repair: / Blest isle! with matchless beauty crowned, / And manly hearts to guard the fair.

A workmate made the observation that my Cruel Britannia shirt had a touch of the iPod ad about it. Never to let an opportunity to take the piste, we have the following variant.

The very bottom of Britannia Falls in Valley of the Water, Blue Mountains, NSW There is nothing easy about taking any of the waterfalls or creeks photos in the Valley of the Waters, it’s very rugged terrain and often I had to use my hands when getting closer to my object of desire. BEST VIEWED LARGE Music on the piano of the Royal Yacht Brittania now moored at Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh and a museum piece for tourists. “Royal residence Plans to build a new Royal Yacht to replace Victoria and Albert III began during the reign of King George VI. But The King died in 1952, four months before the keel of the Yacht was laid. His daughter, Princess Elizabeth succeeded him to the throne and the new Queen together with her husband, Prince Philip, took a guiding hand in the design of the Yacht, personally approving plans prepared by Sir Hugh Casson, Consultant Architect, and selecting furniture, fabrics and paintings. No matter where Britannia was in the world, however exotic or remote a location, stepping on to the deck of the Royal Yacht was always a home-coming for The Queen. Furnished to her personal taste, each room was filled with photographs of her children, treasured family heirlooms, much-loved personal possessions and gifts from across the globe. This was the ship that, even with its full complement of around 300 Royal Yachtsmen and Royal Household staff, The Queen named as the one place where she could truly relax.” Extract from The Royal Yacht Britannia web site To read more please select the link above.
