  • Britannia Rock
    by Peter Hill

    US$8.31–US$190.00

This image was a challenge. What I wanted to achieve was the large boulder on the left in frame without a discernible break between the upper and the lower sections of the falls, requiring the lens to be on the same horizontal plane as the body of water between the falls, where the rock was perched. This required navigating the slippery water-covered rock of the falls and then positioning the tripod without much room to spare. There was another drop behind me. This shot was actually a test shot for a much longer exposure using the ND x400 filter, however that shot somehow cropped the rock on the left, and given the light on the water, I preferred this one. Tripod-mounted Canon EOS 5D Mark II / Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM Zoom Lens / Focal length: 24mm / ISO: 100 / Aperture: f22 / Speed: 2.5 seconds / Image: Single RAW file / Location: Britannia Falls, Valley of the Waters Creek, Blue Mountains National Park Best viewed large

  • Winter Falls
    by Peter Hill

    US$8.31–US$190.00

Being Winter and midday deep in the rainforest of the Valley of the Waters, the sun was well and truly hidden by the landscape. Hence, no real need for a filter as 99% of angles didn’t take in the sky. This location was pre-planned, being the lower section of Britannia Falls, which on previous trips I had shot from its mid-section whilst eyeing off the lower portion. After taking some shots at this location, I took this one. Best viewed large Tripod-mounted Canon EOS 5D Mark II / Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM Zoom Lens / Focal length: 24mm / ISO: 100 / Aperture: f22 / Speed: 1.3 seconds / Image: Single RAW file / Location: Britannia Falls, Valley of the Waters Creek, Blue Mountains National Park, June 2009

  • This is another entry for the London Calling Challenge... A commentary on the arrogance of a ruling empire that once was… Everyone has done it, but none so effectively as the tiny island that is England and all ruled from the city of London – the heart of the machine! / __________ Rule Britannia / a poem by James Thompson When Britain first, at heaven’s command, / Arose from out the azure main; / This was the charter of the land, / And guardian Angels sung this strain: Rule, Britannia, rule the waves; / Britons never will be slaves. The nations, not so blest as thee, / Must, in their turns, to tyrants fall: / While thou shalt flourish great and free, / The dread and envy of them all. Still more majestic shalt thou rise, / More dreadful, from each foreign stroke: / As the loud blast that tears the skies, / Serves but to root thy native oak. Thee haughty tyrants ne’er shall tame: / All their attempts to bend thee down, / Will but arouse thy generous flame; / But work their woe, and thy renown. To thee belongs the rural reign; / Thy cities shall with commerce shine: / All thine shall be the subject main, / And every shore it circles thine. The Muses, still with freedom found, / Shall to thy happy coast repair: / Blest isle! with matchless beauty crowned, / And manly hearts to guard the fair.

The very bottom of Britannia Falls in Valley of the Water, Blue Mountains, NSW There is nothing easy about taking any of the waterfalls or creeks photos in the Valley of the Waters, it’s very rugged terrain and often I had to use my hands when getting closer to my object of desire.
