Brisbane at sunset
had another go (from scratch), have straight buildings in colour… /
Brisbane!
Taken at Riverfire 2007 in Brisbane
Rarely content with an image just as it’s shot, I grabbed one of my storm shots of Brisbane city (from New Farm) where the lightning was barely visible behind the buildings and merged it with one of my shots of lightning over Brisbane from home, where the lightning was non stop and at times too close for comfort. It’s a straight mask and drop trick where luckily the skies were about the same hue and colour depth. Last week my Nikon decided to buckle the shutter into the sensor so I am without means to shoot until I can replace it. I’ll be going back through the last three years of non stop shooting to find other shots I can give similar treatment to till that happens.
“As the afternoon light fades, the city is set ablaze, bathed in the golden light of dusk, juxtaposed by a cerulean sky.” This Tone Mapped digitally stitched panorama is composed from a series of hand shot images.
“At 10pm one night at Kangaroo Point, I decided to go for a wander and find some nice vantage points from which to capture panoramas of the city. As I walked along the base of the cliffs and toward the Story Bridge I could hear the roar of the crowds of people living it up in nightclubs across the river. It was a beautiful night and I’m glad I was able to capture this image to share it.” This digitally stitched panorama is based on a series of 40 second exposures. To give an example of the full size of this image, here is a 100% crop of the top of the leftmost building – the Riparian Plaza. Enjoy!
This is a panorama from Mount Coot-tha taken on Easter Sunday, 2008.

The lightning was elusive, even though I was there for a long time, Brisbane from Kangaroo Point
Brisbane, Au near Kangaroo point, at 4:42am / Taken 11/01/2009 This was a very spontaneous photo shoot…my husband woke up at 3am and out of the blue wakes me up saying, lets go take pics of the city pre dawn! / so sleepy eyed me agreed and off we went! this was one of many *safety note: / Please do not attempt this without proper safety precautions, knowlege of tide times and being in limber physical condition. / The sides are very slick and the climb up is over 8 feet with the initial point at the bottom being without footholds another note also, when the city cat or other boats are passing by, be prepared to leave quickly, as a wall of water will rush at you quite rapidly! Taken from the bottom of the cliffs along Kangaroo Point, looking towards the city of Brisbane at night. Timed to exclude the ferries leaving light trails along the river.
rainy days in Queensland are great for city shots! nobody likes the rain here!
Yep, still ploughing through the images from my Southbank night shoot (the 2nd one).

When I take a class out for a night shoot, I’m afraid I lose interest when it comes to straight photography. Maybe I’m not cut out for this lark….I dunno…. Calendar Canon 5D, 30” exposure
