Riverside Free-way, Brisbane @ 8pm on a Thursday night.
What a sight this was, the sky was burning orange! I love how the city looks so small compared to that enormous storm cloud… this was taken at ascot, looking over Brisbane 17.05.08 at 4:55 pm just as the sun was setting… This storm was incredible to watch, until i had to run back to the car because the wind was going to pick me and my camera up + within minutes the city wasn’t visible anymore…

Model is Missy / Makeup and Hair by Loran Bean / Assistant – Adam / Photography and Post by myself Comments are very appreciated. please leave one! I thought I might say a little bit about how we got these Ophelia shots. Missy is a VERY talented photographer friend of mine (to view her work, go http://missyjanek.deviantart.com/) and she has also modeled for me in the past. I thought she’d be great for this concept, so we started about 3pm yesterday. All was going well until she got in the pool and said “I don’t know how to swim!” So we struggled and propped her up with pool noodles and floaties and Adam even held her legs while she tried to stay afloat. I felt like she really was going to drown a couple of times! (We kept her in the shallow end, of course! and my dog was keeping watch as life guard.) For someone who had not really been in water before, I think she did a great job. :)

Yesterday was, quite simply, a rotten day in many ways, however I did have a very short time with the lovely Arnavaz, who came to my studio to be photographed by a couple of friends. They were still at it by the time I arrived home from work, so I grabbed the first camera that I could find quickly, and started shooting. Turns out it was the Canon 5D, and the lens on it was the Lensbaby composer at f/4. This was my first go with the lens, apart from a couple of shots in class, and I’m VERY impressed!!! I had spent a while taking this shot and hadn’t noticed the clouds forming in the east. I clambered over the old pier and it felt like climbing a huge mountain to be greeted by a grand view from the top. Seeing this as I crested the summit was like receiving a little gift from God :) Taken with a Canon EOS 40D and 17-85mm EFS lens. HDR stitched panorma of 12 shots three exposures each. Stitched in PTGui to output three exposure planes [-2,0,+2] HDR was carried out in Dynamic photo HDR. I’ve been looking at Ken Duncan’s panographs and how he uses sand ripples as a foreground feature. I particularly like in this shot that the sand ripples curve around to ‘mirror’ the fanning out of the clouds View On Black my website / my blog / facebook / redbubble / twitter
This is one from my recent trip with Glen to Moreton Island where we were witnessing a great natural spectacle. Do I really need to say anything here…..just look at this landscape and soak it in. It is a large tidal pool where we enjoyed the silence and absence of civilisation. For those of you with an iphone, I have 100 of my "best" in an application called "ifolio".
