A planned get-together with a mate fell through. So instead my son and I went to North Narrabeen beach and took advantage of some magical light and conditions to capture the coast during winter time. / For a very long time this image was my favourite. I was just amazed at how much light was absorbed by the wooden planks, contrast that with the smooth silky water. A great challenge for me is to take my camera and my 35mm prime lens for a walk through the Sydney CBD and see if I can see everyday things a little differently. Everyday is different, everyday is a challenge and a great break up of the day for me. Photo Taken: 25-Jul-2007 / Time: 2pm / Conditions: Sunny winters day

Ian Rilen was a legendary Sydney rock and roller and a member of bands such as Rose Tattoo, X and Sardine V. He died earlier this year and is much missed for his wild and wonderful ways. I found this candid back stage shot of him and his then wife Stephanie preparing to go onstage at the Trade Union Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills way way back in the early 80’s. They were in Sardine V at that time and when I look at this shot now the eighties rush back. Oh my misspent youth. :) So Vale Ian Rilen, I so hope things are rocking were ever you are. This shot is for you.
for my bff over in thailand-she needs art.
I’ve been on a mission to conquer the abstract-a true measure of an artist, I think, as there is no ‘reality’ to compare it too, no likeness to draw close to. Just you. You decide to continue, or when to stop. When to use the ‘f’ word-as we used to tease our sculpture teacher>there is no such thing as ‘finished’. I think there is. the energy passes-it’s time-if you go over, it become overworked and pushed, forced. And therein lies the art.
I bought some Singh Ray filters mid November. I did not get a chance to try them out until after Xmas – says a lot about the mad rush leading up to this period of the year. After using them I am in awe as to how effective they are. I love the challenge of street photography – seeing something in everyday things we would normally walk by. Its also a way I find to take my mind of my “day job” and use the other side of my brain. This was taken during one of my strolls camera in hand through Sydney CBD. Photo Taken: 22-Feb-2008 / Time: 7:30pm / Conditions: Sunny day / / / / / / / / Some other Sydney based art: / / / / / / /
I’ve been uploading some pretty and sweet colour images from one of my little toy cameras just lately ….. and I’ve really enjoyed that…... but now I think its time for a few more of my dark and meaningful infrared landscapes….. because these are what are in many ways closest to my own ways of seeing. Dark and tense and rich with a brooding subsumed complexity. Shot with a very old Olympus late in the afternoon after a violent electical storm had passed over the Sydney Park. At the very edges of this rather peculiar and totally manmade park which is very near to the main airport in Sydney…. there is an industrial estate comprised almost totally of precast slab buildings that are ubiquitous in the way they remain utterly souless despite the cheery colours they are painted in. I was lucky enough to catch them in the late harsh light of the afternoon backlit with this tremendously amazing rainbow in the distance….... and just to the right of the main arch of the rainbow is a very faint secondary bow which gives just a little more emphasis to the scene. This little landscape then looks a little like a stage set for a cosmic drama that I could only imagine in my wildest dreams.

I’ve been posting some tee shirt designs lately and while that’s been a lot of fun ….. time I got back to the Infrared landscapes. This shot was taken not long after I shot Heaven’s Gate and in almost the same location in the amazing Sydney Park. In this one the rainbow seems to be forming a bridge from the sky to the earth and its all come to fruition in this little bush. If only I could find the real bridge from the heaven’s and go and take a peek.

Acrylic on canvas, feathers textured with Dulux acrylic house paint, part of my Sydney Exhibition art works. Each of my paintings are done in many layers using Atilier Acrylic painting medium, I tend to stay away from using water with my acrylics, tending to layer and glaze with this medium, I find it builds up the depth of my work, which may sometimes look simple, yet each painting no matter the subject has many layers, creating what I feel to be a real glow to each one. Using good quality paint is pure pleasure, the way it moves on the canvas, the way it blends and flows, the medium allows greater control of the paint, and a wonderful finish to the paintings. I am happy to say all work is completed, and ready to be sent to Sydney, I am looking forward to visiting again and will be at the Art House Gallery on the opening night and also on the Saturday, so call in if your down this way….(see invite) Cheers / Kym
nearly four months ago I sent ten rolls of various special films away to a lab for processing but only eight came back…. I had such angst… although to be fair possibly not as much in the end as the lab guy who had to take my endless calls about the missing films…. anyway just to show that miracles do sometimes happen…. today out of a clear blue sky…. my missing film turned up…. I am just sooo happy about it…... that I’m uploading one straight from the scanner… nothing has been done to this at all….. it’s straight from the camera then a couple of months trolling about doing god knows what and then scanned and brought to you ….. she holds back the sun at around 5.30am at the ladies baths at Flagstaff Hill just under the lighthouse in Wollongong…... enjoy

Our photography class went on a field trip to Sydney Harbour last week. We arrived at 9pm and left at 1 am, but what a lot of fun we had. Our wonderful teachers went with us and explained about lighting, white balance and night photography. This is my first night lights shot. For an amateur I was fairly happy with the results. What do you think? Taken with my Canon 40 DSLR on a tripod. white balance- auto, shutter speed- 2/5 sec, iso- 200, Fstop-7.1 / I have done some post editing in photoshop but not too much, Lunar park is a favourite of mine as I used to go there back in my younger days. Thanks for visiting

The building on the shoreline is the Hyatt. Equipment: Nikon D300, Sigma Lens 10-20mm Technique – 5 exposures bracketted, processed with photomatix
