Carnforth Station Briefly Encountered March 25th 2008 was the centenery and celebration of the life and work of Sir David Lean KBE, possibly one of the best, if not the best British Film Director ever. / / His career produced such classics as Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Doctor Zhivago and A Passage to India. He has been Widely acclaimed by such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick and George Lucas. / / Brief Encounter, made in the last year of World War 2 Britain (1945), is adapted from Noel Coward’s one act play, Still Lives, and tells the, then, unthinkable story of a housewife (Celia Johnson) for whom the discovery of the passion of real love (with Trevor Howard’s Doctor), as contrasted to her quiet conventional marriage, brings her to the very point of suicide. / / The story, predominately, centres on their meetings at the fictional, Milford train station which, in reality, was Carnforth Station located on the southern edge of Cumbria. This location was chosen because, although at the tail-end of WW2, a blackout was still in force in London. There were no such problems in the wilds of Carnforth, and the station was, at that time, a busy junction with plenty of trains thundering by. / / The film’s soundtrack prominently features the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff and played by Eileen Joyce. / / The modern Carnforth station, almost unchamged, now boasts an impressive visitors’ centre. / / Lots of location information here / / This image is, clockwise from top-left: / 1 – the station refreshment room, lovingly recreated at the station because the film used a fictional London-based set. / 2 – The clock at the top of the ramp leading from platform 1 to platform 2. In the film the clock-facia was covered over and card-board hands were used to keep time continuity. / 3 – Rail-tracks, little changed from 1945, with the exception of the electric wires, which would whisk the two lovers together, and then apart. / 4 – A photo in the visitor centre, which shows a steam train of the era approaching the station. / / These photos were taken on 23rd March 2008 / / Image 1,2,& 3© PhotogeniquE 2008 / Image 4 © unknown all rights reserved. / This composite is not for sale.

In that brief moment as he gently caressed her skin she felt he was their, but it was all so unsure that she couldnt move, afraid if she turned he would be gone. She had been waiting for 18 months for his return from the war, with no messages, no letters, she thought him dead. She chose to remain still and except his love and warmth even in that…Brief Moment In Time.

While we were briefly encountering Carnforth Station, in the room next to the re-created Refreshment Room, there was a Jazz Band Playing. I didn’t find out their name. / / Of course, being a guitarist, I felt obliged to selectively feature the guitar. For those of you who care about such things (you know who you are!) it was an Ibanez AFS75T. / / The observant among you will see that there is one other coloured object in the frame. A poster announcing David Lean’s centenary. / / © photogenique (dave peddie): using this image for any purpose and in any way, without prior permission, may lead to legal action.

It was so nice on Saturday that lots of youngsters were out in their kayaks practising, it was great hearing their shouts of joy and giggling during the brief respite from all the winter wind and rain.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland knickers is a word for women’s undergarments: There are now many names for the undergarments that previously have been called knickers, such as panties, thongs, g-strings, briefs, shorts, tangas, etc. While the term ‘knickers’ refers almost exclusively to women’s underwear, ‘knicks’, knick-knacks’ and similar more masculine variations are acceptable monikers for men’s underwear, particularly for young boys.

Sometimes when I am all alone / Quietly walking in the forest / Or along the water’s shore / Or on a mountain path / A feeling of oneness overcomes me. So much so that I can / Taste the music of trees swaying, / Or hear the stars twinkling / Or feel the universe calling. For less than a second, / Perhaps even less briefly, / Then and only then I feel truly / In the moment.

The Brief Create, collect, collate, images fit for publishing a coffee table book on Generational Resemblance. This may extend to an exhibition launched at Gallery 26. Participants will receive a free copy of their image, accessible by email or online. In detail Our intention is to photograph families; grandparents, parents and children, children and their siblings, multi relationships, extended family, adopted family, families of different nationalities: family of all types. We aim to reveal the physical similarities between these people: be it a whole face shape, ears, eyes, mouth, nose, profile, eyebrow arch-whatever the outstanding features are. We will initially focus on the whole face, and then the individual aspects, not to the exclusion of the overall appearance. Eg if the pair are wearing sunglasses, but appear similar due to their cheekbones, so be it. As well as similarity, we will make comparison of similarity despite other differences. Eg One child has blue, the other brown, both have same jaw line. This process branches out, to show sameness and differences between siblings and parents etc. Style of photography-variety is acceptable; / B/W, colour, grainy, sharp, studio, natural light-bright light, etc Image quality must be minimum size__ in raw format. Suggested locations / -Bondi Pavillion on _ (date) / -Luna Park (to be negotiated) on (date) / -at Gallery 26 (upon asking permission from Steve) / -in their homes (we go to them) / -they come to us (studio/desired location) Who are the subjects? / -photographers may choose their own subjects (benefits-know you better, more comfortable) / -we advertise and get them to come to an appointed place at appointed time / -they walk by and get invited Subjects must all sign release forms. Subject combination ideas-essentially family of all types –(etc) / Parents/children / Siblings / Grandparents / children and their siblings, / multi relationships: brothers, wives, children, cousins, half brothers/sisters / extended family, / adopted family, / families of different nationalities eg Indonesian mother, Greek father Time frame / Photoshoot-one/two days at Bondi/Luna Park / All Shooting-done by the end of Jan/Feb / Photo Selection-by (date) Exhibition at Gallery 26 –by Feb10 / (date) Meet with Publishers (date) / Printing (date) Photographers renumeration / We will divide 50% of profits between photographers, according to the percentage of photos used, if any. The building is the ‘Royal Exhibition Building’ at Carlton Gardens, gorgeous place. This shot is a part of the photoseries i did back in highschool entitled ‘Brief Encounter’. I tried to emulate the old vintage diffused look of old photographs, hopefully it’s not too much.
