This beautiful waterfall is located about 7km outside Killarney on the Kenmare road. It is well signposted and is just a short walk from the carpark through a forest. The roar of the falls can be heard long before you see them. The water source for the falls is the “Devil’s Punch Bowl” corrie lake near the summit of nearby Mangerton mountain. The waterfall is 70 ft in height and flows into Muckross Lake. The scenic small bridge in this photo is a short walk above the waterfall Please visit my websites Beautiful Photos of Ireland and Beautiful County Clare Photos

NOTE: Rainbow Waterfalls was nominated to the Pay It Forward group by Kathy S Gillentine and here is what she had to say: ”I want to nominate bigd / He has a great eye for photography. He has allowed to ask me how to do things if he’s not sure ,then he helps me find the way. Big D has been a true inspiration to me ,not only by his work but by his kindness to help me when I need help. His images are beautiful and well thought out. Take the time to look through his extensive portfolio and be inspired by his work.” Kathy S Gillentine It’s a huge surprise and thanks Kathy. This well-known English village gets featured on everything from calendars to chocolate box lids! / This location also featured in the film Dr Doolittle which stared Rex Harrison. During this time a certain Ranulph Fiennes became offended by the construction of an ugly concrete dam built to create a harbour scene. Fiennes planned to demolish the dam. He used explosives which he later claimed to have obtained legitimately from the armoury. Using skills from a recently completed training course on evading search dogs by night, he escaped capture, but he and a guilty colleague were both subsequently traced. After a court case, Fiennes had to pay a hefty fine and he and his co-conspirator were discharged from the SAS. Fiennes was initially posted to another cavalry regiment but was then allowed to return to his regiment. I’m fortunate to live only a few miles away, so managed to capture this classic scene in the early morning before the tourist coaches arrived! Oils (16×20 inches) original sold A painting depicting Ireland in days past. Autumn in Ireland and the man is returning home with his cart of peat. This is an old painting I did several years ago, entirely from my imagination. We still use peat (turf) in Ireland and love the smell wafting through the air during the long, cold winters. Every year, at about this time, on country roads in County Clare, you will most likely slow down to a snail’s pace as you drive behind an ancient tractor (with an even more ancient driver… :-) ) loaded with peat. When the load is brought to your home, be prepared for a few hours of hard, back-breaking work as the huge load of peat must be stacked neatly in a pile. Nothing beats cooking on the old range and the warmth spreads through the house and food tastes so much better. The kitchen is the best place to be on a cold day!
The challenge in Stream Crossings on “Streams in winter” inspires me to dig out a shot from the best hoarfrost day that I ever experienced in my photographic life (I remember some from my youth, but that was long ago and very long before the age of digital photography). / This shot was taken in the most beautiful park of the country-house of Groeneveld near Baarn which you know already from quite a few shots. We never thought this day would come, / But it’s finally here at last, What once was our bright future, / Is now are dim-lit past, But we hold onto the memories, / The lessons that we learned, The pathways we have traveled down, / The corners that we turned, And soon we say our sad goodbyes, / That will last us forever, We may see each other again, / Maybe once or maybe never, So make your goodbyes ones to remember, / The kind that will stay in their heads, Those are the goodbyes they will treasure, / The ones that were sad to be said.
In a sleepy hollow below the little Dartmoor village of Walkhampton, the River Walkham makes it way off the high moor ground with the ancient stone Huckworthy Bridge crossing it next to the former Post Office. A little known part of the moors to tourists and so peaceful, I often enjoy a walk down from the village along the riverside to escape the many visitors who at times overcrowd the moors.
