Melbourne City after twilight from Princes Bridge. / Viewed from Southbank on the Yarra River 1.5hrs after sunset. Melbourne is a very pretty city at night with lots of memorable locations. / 30D, 24-70L,mirror lock-up+timer,24mm, 1/15th, f/11,iso100. I’d left my tripod at home so ended up balancing the camera and propping the lens with a Malteeses choclate box. made from two photo’s, one shot above and then another below to capture the view and also to boost detail for print.

I was walking over the Chicago River on the Wells Street Bridge when I stopped and set my camera down on the railing to capture this nighttime shot. The city’s lights looked exceptionally colorful to me that evening.

The Erasmusbrug (“Erasmus Bridge”) is a cable stayed bridge across the Nieuwe Maas river, linking the northern and southern halves of the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. / The Erasmusbrug was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996. The 808 metre long bridge has a 139 metre-high asymmetrical pylon, earning the bridge its nickname of “The Swan”. The southern span of the bridge has a 89 metre long bascule bridge for ships that cannot pass under the bridge. The bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest in West Europe and has the largest panel of its type in the world. The bridge was officially opened by Queen Beatrix on September 6, 1996, having cost 165 million Dutch guilders (about 75 million euros) to construct. Shortly after the bridge opened to traffic in October 1996, it was discovered the bridge would swing under particularly strong wind conditions. To reduce the trembling, stronger shock dampers were installed. The bridge was featured in the 1998 Jackie Chan film Who Am I? In 2005 several planes flew underneath the bridge as part of the “Red Bull Air Race”. In 2005, the bridge served as the backdrop for a performance by Dj Tiësto titled “Tiësto @ The Bridge, Rotterdam”. This is not your “usual” shot of the S.F. city skyline and Bay Bridge that you are used to seeing… those are shot from overhead. There are reasons this view is not seen all over the place… To get to this location, there are a lot of obstacles to overcome. Sheer drops with nothing but rocks and ocean below abound, jagged metal from construction jut up from the ground when you least expect, and the keep out signs from the government didn’t help to settle my nerves any either. For that last reason you don’t want to use your flashlight as you head down the slopes for fear of the coast guard seeing you. That makes the afore mentioned problems magnified. So… all that said, it was a calm beautiful night on the bay and once I reached this area, I found this sight so breathtaking that it took me easily five minutes before I remembered why I came to the spot. BEST VIEWED LARGER Storms and cloud so gtoes the mood of the cityas the first light of day greets the Big Sydney This is the result, sunset light mixing with the eerie light of the appraoching storm. The biggest challenge was holding the camera still in the 30-40 knott winds. The vantage point was from the tenth floor of a building and the light was MAGIC ! A WIDE SHOT BEST VIEWED LARGER This shot was taken from the 10th floor of a office building in North Sydney dawn is just breaking, it where i sit for breakfast. Yes I know it’s hard but somebody has to do it ! The view over Lavender Bay features Luna Park nestling at the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge it expands to the Sydney Skyline to the upper harbour with Mc Mahons Point on the northern shore and Sydney tower in the distance.
