  • / . / I had some requests of a portrait shot of my photo entitled “Luna over Luna Park”. Luckily, I had taken the shot. I’m not great at giving photos titles, hence the title for this one. This was taken on the same night of my other photos “Luna Over Luna Park”, “Luna Harbour” and “Luna PANORAMA”. The photos were taken in quite quick succession. I attempted to combine the full moon, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You might be interested in viewing the other photos because this is in Portrait, two are in Landscape, and one PANORAMA. It’s amazing how a similar subject can be photographed in slightly different ways, and produce different results. I will interested in knowing which of the four is you favourite !

  • I took this photo on 07/13/06 on a vacation with my husband; we began in Redding, CA went over to the Northern CA coast and headed north…. went clear up to Tillamook, Oregon. We followed the shoreline all the way, on this wonderfully scenic trip. This is just one of many images which I am pleased to be able to share; I hope you enjoy….. / / / ___ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. Built in 1936 at MP 141.68, just south of Newport is one of several toll-free bridges forming a part of the Oregon coast highway, US 101. This bridge is located in the city of Newport. YAQUINA BAY (NEWPORT) BRIDGE / The structure is a combination of both steel and concrete arches. The main span of the 3,223-feet structure is a 600-foot steel through arch flanked by two 350-foot steel deck arches. There are five reinforced concrete deck arch secondary spans on the south end of the steel arches and fifteen concrete deck girder approach spans. Decorative elements include ornamental spandrel deck railing brackets, fluted entrance pylons, and a pedestrian plaza with elaborate stairways leading to observation areas. / (Excerpt from: Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon Coastal Highway Bridges) / / This is the image on the egov.Oregon.gov webpage.

  • BEST VIEWED LARGER This shot taken from MIlsons Point directly under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the lights and skyline of the city on the opposite shore. Taken around midnight the waters of Sydney are lit with colours of the rainbow. For visitors to Sydney , you can walk across to Milsons point, or catch train trip to Milson’s Point station. This shot was taken with no filters with a Nikon D300 and Nikon 18-200mm lens securely mounted on a Manfrotto Tripod, using three bracketed exposures which were then processed using Photomatix HDR Software. • MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER / 190 Comments,125 Favourites, 2956 Views / Sydney is great for sunrises, it quite often receives spectacular sunrises as it greets the sunrises that appear from the east. This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

  • Tom Uglys and the Captain Cook bridges by David Petranker Strong westerly winds across NSW have generated one of the most spectacular dust storms in the history of Sydney according to the Weather Channel. An orange haze has covered the city, reducing visibility, causing transport problems and creating health concerns for those with respiratory problems. “This is the biggest dust storm I have ever seen in Sydney,” says Dick Whitaker, senior meteorologist at The Weather Channel with more than 40 years of meteorological experience. “The last dust storm to hit Sydney was in October 2002 but it was nowhere as big as the one we are seeing today.” “The storm is as a consequence of an extended period of strong winds and very dry conditions over western NSW. We are looking at it gradually improving later this morning to early afternoon but it should remain hazy all day.” Leader readers have been quick to grab the abundance of photo opportunities this morning. Sydney woke to the red haze as dust blown in from western NSW caused havoc. All citybound lanes on the M5 East tunnel were closed earlier this morning while ferries were cancelled and some trains were delayed. Even a horse racing meeting at Canterbury Park racecourse had to be cancelled today. Passengers at Sydney Airport were told to expect significant delays and motorists should take extra care throughout the day because of harsh weather conditions. Sutherland SES spokesman John Gonzalez said volunteers had taken away fallen trees at Kareela and Menai. Matt Kirby at Kogarah SES said his team removed trees at Hurstville, Blakehurst and Rockdale. Primary schools in St George and Sutherland Shire are also taking precautions, keeping children in classrooms until the dust settles. Students from Our Lady of Fatima Primary School at Caringbah, were among many advised by teachers to remain inside with the windows closed. http://www.theleader.com.au/news/local/news/general/dust-storm-loses-puff/1631494.aspx
