Yesterday, 21 February, I set off at around 1pm for Town, deciding whilst on the tube that I’d get off at Embankment and cross the river then follow the railway lines into South London. I walked a long way at dawdling “photography” pace, stopping frequently to examine shot possibilities. I meandered through the quiet streets eventually ending up At Elephant & Castle, where I explored the Heygate Estate, getting a few useful shots, including All Ears I then wandered through Bermondsey (which I thought was a lovely area) and then made it down to the tunnel under the London Bridge railway line where I shot this Eventually I ended up between London Bridge and Tower Bridge in the complex of sharp, glossy new buildings that make up the Business park surrounding City Hall. I spend quite a while hunting images and then waiting for the right number of people not to be in the picture! But I got this and it makes me very proud. I’m sure Ill have a couple of people squawking about “the Rule of Thirds” etc, but I am happy with it is exactly as it is. Rules are there to be broken. With the sun setting, I crossed London Bridge and wandered along the North Bank looking for a decent spot to shoot the sunset and the Millennium Bridge. 60 exposures later and I’m spoiled for choice. Here’s one of the many images I shot With the sun having set I was once again on the north bank opposite the Oxo Tower and Sea Containers House, so, with the sky much better than on previous occasions, I thought I’d have another crack at some time exposures. Look out for the upload!

  • Introducing a New Group - San Francisco
    by David Pierce

Hello everyone. I am very happy to have been asked to co-host a new group featuring images of San Francisco...

Hello everyone. I am very happy to have been asked to co-host a new group featuring images of San Francisco by Tama Blough. Our goal is to feature works with subjects in or of San Francisco. The city has so much to offer, so were are looking for a wide range of subjects, not just the major landmarks. We want to include neighborhoods, parks and any other hidden gems that don’t get as much attention. This group is not for the surrounding cities although images may be taken from the viewpoint of those areas if San Francisco is the subject. So if you would like to join please check out the group for full details. We look forward to seeing the best that you have to offer. Thanks.

  • Cleveland’s Veterans Memorial Bridge has a lower level built for Electric Rail/Trolley/Subway use. Their lines were slowly closed between 1920 & 1953 and replaced with busses. The county engineer opens the lower level for self guided tours and you can walk the almost mile long span. This is a view looking north out the archess and west towards the new condo development built around the old Superior Viaduct(western side) that the Veteran’s Bridge replaced in 1918. / Shot with an Xti.

  • This Bridge goes across a small portion of Barr Lake State Park, which is 2 miles from my house. You can see the mountains in the background across the lake – AWESOME view! Very peaceful and tranquil. I frequent this spot to take photos and to just relax and watch God’s little critters.

  • Taken from Southbank Melbourne, looking down towards Princes bridge, Flinders street station and some office buildings. / That’s where the Pen Pushers hang out. This shot was taken on a very warm Spring November night about 3 weeks ago. It was a hot day, we had nothing much to do that night, the brother wasn’t working the next day so we headed off into the city. / My first night shoot in well over 12 months and I enjoyed every minute of it. • The Bolte Bridge is a large twin cantilever bridge in Melbourne Victoria. It crosses the Yarra and Victoria harbour in the Docklands. / Construction taking three years to complette, 1996 to 1999 it cost $75 Million and was named after a former Victorian premier of Victoria Sir Henry Bolte. / It’s 490 metres in lengh (1, 607.6 ft) before this bridge was built it was a bastard getting to Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, ya could get there sure, but it’s much easier now with the Bolte Bridge and it’s all freeway. Beautiful. Uploaded—-10/12/09 Camera—-Fuji Finepix s6500fd
