I went down to the Como Pleasure Grounds the other day. It’s funny how you can live almost right next to a place, and not realize how beautifull it is… This shot was taken under a beaurifull tree looking out towards the Train Bridge and the Marina. It is a 5xp HDR, pushing the limits a bit, but I think it gives the tree a real 3dimensional feel. Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers, Alex

Sorry for not posting many shots over the past few weeks and not leaving any replies. I have been really busy with work and work around the house. I can tell you the past few days have been the worst choice to do some work around the Garden. Anyway here are two HDR – Sunrise shots from a few weeks ago taken from Victoria Road near the old White Bay Power Station. I hope you like it. This was shot on on my Nikon FM2 with Ilford Delta 100 B&W Film. It is the first roll I ever developped myself, as part of my Black & White Course at the ACP. Random shots of my life in Como. The Sea Cliff Bridge is found between Sydney and Wollongong in NSW. It is a wonderful structure that follows the curves of the cliffs without touching them. The area was notorious for its rock falls so the bridge is actually a road protected from the cliffs by space.

Sydney Harbour Bridge – a popular and much loved Sydney icon. So totally photogenic that people travel from far and wide to photograph it, to say they’ve seen it, walked on it, climbed it and driven over it. There is a working side to the bridge, too. It took 1400 men to build, 53,000 tonnes of steel, over 6 million hand driven rivets, 272,000 litres of paint just for the first 3 coats alone, it requires constant daily maintenance, it carries hundreds of trains each day, over 150,000 cars daily traverse it’s span and countless commuters, cyclists and tourists walk and cycle along the pedestrian and cycle ways. Celebrating what is still today an engineering feat, this is my tribute to our bridge.

The Hampden Suspension Bridge is an historical landmark and is the only surviving suspension bridge in New South Wales that was built during the Australian colonial days. The Hampden Bridge is 77 metres long and was built in the year 1897, and named after Lord Hampden, who was the Governor of NSW from 1895 to 1899. The Hampden Bridge straddles the Kangaroo River with the Kangaroo Valley village nestled beside it. This image was taken under the Dora Creek Road and Rail bridge. Dora Creek is found on the south western end of Lake Macquarie in NSW Australia and is a small township scattered along the banks of the creek. Dora Creek provides some beautiful mirror images early in the morning and is well worth a visit to capture these. We were a little late arriving on this occasion however this one was captured under the road/rail bridge. I loved the reflection, colours and rays of light that were finding their way through the bridge pylons. My advice is to always check under bridges as you can find some fascinating photo opportunities. This image was taken with my Nikon D80, 55-200 mm lens, hand held. /

BEST VIEWED LARGER This shot was taken on Friday 7th August in the late afternoon, weather predictions had been for a change to hit the city. This is the result, sunset light mixing with the eerie light of the appraoching storm. The biggest challenge was holding the camera still in the 30-40 knott winds. The vantage point was from the tenth floor of a building and the light was MAGIC !
