Dusk on the River Tyne, looking over the Eye -the Millenium Bridge – and the Sage across the river in Gateshead / / / Featured in Night Photography
Taken lying on the floor with the lens of the camera sticking through a hole in some wire mesh on a fence. I was forced into looking a bit crazy because I didn’t have my tripod with me.
we were out for a walk on the quayside in Newcastle and the gulls were going crazy, managed to get this one catching a piece of bread and even managed to get half the tyne bridge in !!!! lucky or what :-)
A nice walk along the quayside in Newcastle on a fresh sunny february morning….better than watching the telly..
The Tyne Bridge, Swing Bridge and High Level Bridge linking Newcastle on the right and Gateshead on the left.
was blown away by the reflections seen today, loved this bridge with all the mess around it, in my opinion it makes the shot, mess is good sometimes :-)
Canon 350D / 10 seconds / F22 Words and music by Jimmy Nail . . . it’s called Big River, and about the River Tyne that you see in my photograph. Walking on cobble stone, little bits of skin and bone / Jumping on the tram car for a ride / I can remember then, I was just a boy of ten / Hanging out along the old quayside / Not all the capstans and the cargo boats / And stevadores are gone / To where all the old ships go / But memories just like the seas live on That was when coal was king, / The river a living thing / And I was just a boy, but it was mine, / The coaly tyne This was a big river, / I want you all to know that I was proud / This was a big river, but that was long ago, / Thats not now, thats not now My fther was a working man, / He earned our living with his hands / He had to cross the river every day / He picked up a union card out of the neptune yard / Mouths to feed and the bills to pay / Then came a time for him to sail across the sea / And far away / Finally when the war was won / You brought him home and home he stayed And when his days were done, under a golden sun / You carried him to where he longed to be, / Back to the sea This was a big river, / I want you all to know that I was proud / This was a big river, but that was long ago, / That’s not now The Neptune was the last to go, / I heard it on my radio / And then they played the latest number one / But what do they do all day? / And what are they supposed to say? / What does a father tell his son? / If you you believed that there’s a bond between our future / And our past / Then try to hold on to what we had, / We build them strong, we built to last Cause this is a mighty town, / It’s built upon solid ground / And everything they tried so hard to kill, / We will rebuild This was a big river / I want you all to know that I was proud / This was a big river, but that was long ago, / That’s not now / This is a big river, / And in my heart I know it will rise again / The river will rise again

An uncharacteristically normal shot for me, not a bit of peeling paint or broken window in sight! Taken on a recent wander along the river, this is Newcastle / Gateshead’s Millennium Bridge, known locally to a lot as the blinking eye bridge. The entire structure rotates through 40 degrees when pushed by the three hydraulic rams at each edge, lifting the coloured archway you see here and the walkway slung from it high into the air to allow ships to pass underneath.
Gateshead Millennium Bridge with the Tyne Bridge in the distance, Ohhhh how I love walking along here on a night time. Camera = Canon 350D / Lens = Canon 18-55 / Exposure = 20 seconds @ f22
And the 2 Bridges are the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Tyne Bridge. Photo taken on the Gateshead side of the River Tyne looking over to Newcastle upon Tyne, England Camera Canon 350D / Lens Canon 18-55 / Exposure 10 seconds @ f22 PLEASE CLICK ON THE IMAGE AND VIEW IT LARGE . . . IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE :-)
This is a view down the mighty River Tyne from the swing bridge with it’s old wood jetty pointing down river like some old barge. Like a half remembered ghost of the trade that once and still does flow along this river. The river separates Newcastle and Gateshead and yet such is the relationship between the two sides of the river, there is a wonderful number of bridges connecting the two banks. In front the first bridge is the classic Tyne bridge , with the Gateshead Sage building glistening in the wet light underneath, while beyond lies the modern “winking eye” bridge. This foot and cycle bridge links the redeveloped riverside of Newcastle to the reinvent Baltic Flour Mill, now known for it’s contemporary art shows.
