Melbourne City after twilight from Princes Bridge. / Viewed from Southbank on the Yarra River 1.5hrs after sunset. Melbourne is a very pretty city at night with lots of memorable locations. / 30D, 24-70L,mirror lock-up+timer,24mm, 1/15th, f/11,iso100. I’d left my tripod at home so ended up balancing the camera and propping the lens with a Malteeses choclate box. made from two photo’s, one shot above and then another below to capture the view and also to boost detail for print.
553 views 3/11/09 Taken with Minolta 5xi on Agfa film. Not the usual view of this monumental Venetian church.
I missed a fantastic sunset, and an incredibly intense lightning storm. By the time I got to my chosen vantage point, I was left with the remnants of both. © Sara Lamond 2007. Black and white look at Sydney landmark
A Susan Epps Oliver original 2008. All rights reserved This work was derived from basically a happy snap taken whilst out walking on Skyline Drive in Virginia. The night I worked on it was stormy and kind of eerie so I decided to imagine how the bridge might have looked on that night. I used the fractalius filter ( Photoshop plug-in ) to give the stringiness to the foliage and then played with many variations in brightness/contrast, colour etc until I arrived at the effect I wanted. It was about 3 hours work which included cloning out stuff which I thought made the image look cluttered. This is the bridge that crosses the Myall River from Teagardens to Hawks Nest. / It was taken on the way home from a good meal to the B&B. As you can see the water was so still it mirrored the lights on the bridge. It is as it was taken by our point & shoot camera, a Sony Cybershot 4.1 at maximum zoom and without a flash. / Viewed by more than 50 visitors and my most favourited work. Thanks to the hosts of 50 things for featuring this work. Their encouragement much appreciated. / / This pic was voted in the top ten of a challenge / in the group “Rivers, Lakes and Dams” then / selected for the home page, my very first such honour. / Then it was featured in the PEACE, LOVE & TRANQUILITY Group. / Recently it was picked in the top ten in the avatar challenge for the Black with a touch of colour group. / Thanks to all who voted for it. / Many thanks to the hosts of all groups for their encouragement! /
even bright light does not disclose dark secrets (part of a bigger series) if you need a lot of explanation for your picture it’s limiting the possibilities of the viewer. or it’s a mediocre picture.

That is me in the picture. I set my camera to self timer and the bolted to get into the right spot. I took a few tries but I think it was worth it
This is not your “usual” shot of the S.F. city skyline and Bay Bridge that you are used to seeing… those are shot from overhead. There are reasons this view is not seen all over the place… To get to this location, there are a lot of obstacles to overcome. Sheer drops with nothing but rocks and ocean below abound, jagged metal from construction jut up from the ground when you least expect, and the keep out signs from the government didn’t help to settle my nerves any either. For that last reason you don’t want to use your flashlight as you head down the slopes for fear of the coast guard seeing you. That makes the afore mentioned problems magnified. So… all that said, it was a calm beautiful night on the bay and once I reached this area, I found this sight so breathtaking that it took me easily five minutes before I remembered why I came to the spot. Bridge The legend of these Ravens in the Tower of London is so important to the people of England that ten ravens (6 on duty and 4 young spares) are actually employed by the Tower of London at the expense of the British government, in return for their service. It was said that Charles II ordered their removal following complaints from John Flamsteed, the Royal Astronomer However, they were not removed because Charles was then told of the legend that if the ravens ever leave the Tower of London, the White Tower, the monarchy, and the entire kingdom would fall (the London Stone has a similar legend). / Info Here
