  • The infrared medium gives this small creek a dramatic effect. Taken on a hot Queensland summer day.

  • Sorry for not posting many shots over the past few weeks and not leaving any replies. I have been really busy with work and work around the house. I can tell you the past few days have been the worst choice to do some work around the Garden. Anyway here are two HDR – Sunrise shots from a few weeks ago taken from Victoria Road near the old White Bay Power Station. I hope you like it. Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers and Thanks, Alex

  • The skies of Sydney putting on a show to rival the best of Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks. This photo a couple of weeks after New Year’s Eve.

  • Bring me that horizon! © Cadence Gamache

  • “The day comes to an end / I feel my life all spent / For noone is left concern / walking the plank, / it’s a point of no return. The end of a life. / Youth suicide happens everyday. / Face it. / It is not a solution. / - – - / Won The Sunday Times – ESCAPE Travel Picture Competition (Wed, 5th June 2008). • A fantastic moody shot of London’s famous Tower Bridge. While it appears ancient, it is actually a product off Victorian engineering, a drawbridge with a pedestrian walkway across the top. It was built to compliment nearby Tower of London. This photo captures London’s moody skies with a splash of sunlight hitting the bridge itself.

  • Eilean Donan Castle, winter 2007

  • Romance depicting heroic or marvelous deeds, pageantry, romantic exploits etc Eilean Donan castle bathing in the early afternoon light _As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most important attractions in the Scottish highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932_ / http://www.eileandonancastle.com/

  • hdr using single raw file – thanks mel for your help… these were taken at the same place this one at night…

  • / . / I had some requests of a portrait shot of my photo entitled “Luna over Luna Park”. Luckily, I had taken the shot. I’m not great at giving photos titles, hence the title for this one. This was taken on the same night of my other photos “Luna Over Luna Park”, “Luna Harbour” and “Luna PANORAMA”. The photos were taken in quite quick succession. I attempted to combine the full moon, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You might be interested in viewing the other photos because this is in Portrait, two are in Landscape, and one PANORAMA. It’s amazing how a similar subject can be photographed in slightly different ways, and produce different results. I will interested in knowing which of the four is you favourite !

  • The old I Street bridge carries cars on the top level and trains on the lower level. It is a turnstyle bridge to allow boats to pass.

  • Herringfleet Mill can be found where you might least expect to find it – about twenty yards on the Suffolk side of the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Given Norfolk’s monopoly on spectacular, well-preserved mills, it seems only fair that neighbouring Suffolk should have a few of its own…although it should be noted that even this mill is officially in the Norfolk Broads. This photograph was taken on an extremely February day. A 13 seconds’ exposure captured the movement of the clouds as they raced across the East Anglian sky. Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens. Exposure of 13 seconds at f/22.
