  • This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas. We went to the movies at Sydney Harbour and when we arrived, the rain was pouring down. I was struck by the sparkling reflections on the esplanade and the softness of the colours in the distance. I rushed to get my camera and quickly took photos before it stopped. / I have used warmer colours than the photo showed, creating the feeling of the sun behind the clouds, just about to break through. • I missed a fantastic sunset, and an incredibly intense lightning storm. By the time I got to my chosen vantage point, I was left with the remnants of both. © Sara Lamond 2007. • Sydney Harbour Bridge – a popular and much loved Sydney icon. So totally photogenic that people travel from far and wide to photograph it, to say they’ve seen it, walked on it, climbed it and driven over it. There is a working side to the bridge, too. It took 1400 men to build, 53,000 tonnes of steel, over 6 million hand driven rivets, 272,000 litres of paint just for the first 3 coats alone, it requires constant daily maintenance, it carries hundreds of trains each day, over 150,000 cars daily traverse it’s span and countless commuters, cyclists and tourists walk and cycle along the pedestrian and cycle ways. Celebrating what is still today an engineering feat, this is my tribute to our bridge.

  • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Historic Richmond Bridge ============================================ / Sold a Laminated Print ============================================ / Featured in Top 10 of Tasmania Challenge Bridge_of_Tasmania ============================================ / The Richmond Bridge, built in 1823, is the oldest bridge in Australia still in use. Richmond Bridge is a lasting symbol of Tasmania’s convict heritage. The sandstone arches of Australia’s oldest known large stone arch bridge have spanned Tasmania’s Coal River since its completion in 1825. The foundation stone for the Richmond Bridge was laid on 11th December 1823 and construction continued using convict labour until completion in 1825. In 2005, the bridge was recognised as an outstanding historic place and added to the Australian National Heritage List. Richmond, Tasmania, Australia. Shutter 1/250, aperture f/6.3. Post processing included HDR in Photomatix from creation of 2 additional images in Photoshop at an eval of +/- 3 from a single hand-held image after some work with levels and burning and dodging and cloning.
