  • / / Why Red? / I love accenting images with Red because red is the color of pain, the color of love, of stolen innocence, it is the color that flows during birth when a woman brings life into this world, it is often the color that flows out of us as we leave this earth. Today i am sharing part one of, “The Bride of Innocence”. The backgrounds you see are from the balcony pics i took during the daytime. WHAT THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE ISN’T My fellow creative Marny Barnes offered me some words that were powerful and rang true: I refuse to beleive that you don’t hold a peice of that innocene still…somewhere in all that torture you were strong enough to keep some of that innocence safe and just for you. AND I will tell you why I think that. YOU STILL see beauty all around you, / You bleed beauty and innocence out of all your work, / You touch the beauty in the torture and the pain and it grows roses…and color….and ART. If you had no innocence, you would not see the world and other peoples art with such wonder. I SEE INNOCENCE IN YOU. / YOUR HEART IS PURE AND BEAUTIFUL. YOUR ART IS BEAUTIFUL. / THE WORDS YOU LEAVE TO INSPIRE OTHERS / (ON YOUR OWN WORK…..AND THEIRS) IS BEAUTIFUL There is a mourning for the innocence i never got to have or experience as a child. / That is part of what makes incest and sexual abuse so painful. HOWEVER . . . / Marny brought to the light of my consciousness, something i failed to realize and address in my work . . . That my sweetness, my love, did not die when i was abused. It is still at my core and at my essence. My love of sweet joys remain, my softness, light, grace and hope. And these are aspects i will seek to express in my future survivor-orientated work. And i thank you Marny so much for bringing that to the surface of my consciousness. THE CONCEPTION / The Bride of Innocence (Jaeda as the Brides) was conceived back toward the end of May. That’s when construction workers put up scaffolding and started tearing down the supports on my 3rd story balcony and tarped it off. The construction guys worked a few days on my balcony, tearing stuff down, said something about needing to get permits – due to structural damage . . . and they haven’t been back since. So i decided i would get some pictures, now that my balcony is double long (they tore down the wall that separates my neighbor and me). Everything was bathed in a surreal blue light, from the tarp. The scaffolding was also double long and it looked like an endless hallway leading to the land of dreams, to heaven, anything your imagination can conjure up. The balcony itself looked very sad, broken and i kind of liked it’s decayed appeal and thought, at least i could use this to my advantage, creatively! So i went out on my balcony, during the day and night, and took lots of pictures. At night the tarped scaffolding resembled a boat marina or harbor at night. It looked so very different from, the hallway to heaven, of daylight. Previous to the balcony pictures, i had taken some studio pics of me in a makeshift bridal gown. I borrowed the bridal veil from my sister. Ripped the satin bottom off of an old nightgown for the top and used a sheer window treatment panel for the gown part/bottom because i don’t sew! LOL The bridal pictures i took of myself in the studio are what popped into my head as i was photographing the balcony and “The Bride of Innocence” was conceived. It is a slightly sad, disturbing series . . . but i wanted the next series i created to be along the lines of my Red Jane series. I felt like digging deep into all the little nooks and crannies of my soul and Spirit. All of those dark, repressed places that cry out to be acknowledged and expressed. partake and enjoy PEACE and LIGHT / j a e d a :) The Bride of Change The Bride of CHANGE / Peers through the isolating veil of pain and abuse – she is vulnerable / Her weakness is her strength because she OVERCOMES For she will no longer succumb to a tainted existence / Nor the toxic relationships, that leave dark stains on her soul / She knows . . .these ghosts of perversion and possession must go And the red of pain mixes with pink whispers of hope / She summoning the strength / To reach out, start anew and become WHOLE © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Change / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The Bride of Innocence Pretty in Pink / She softly mourns for the bride she never got to be / No pristine, white gown for this lovely lady / She will never be the Bride of INNOCENCE She does not seek what she can not be given . . . / For innocence is the one gift, / That once stolen, / Can never be replaced yet the loss is forgiven © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Innocence / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The Bride of Pain The Bride of PAIN is stuck inside / A blurry nightmare / As her subconscious rewinds her past / And plays it for her – over and over again . . . It is the kind of nightmare where / Violated flesh bleeds red / And the sound of innocence being stolen gets lost / Inside a hazy maze of surreal blue hues She falls to her knees in agony / She wants to find her way out of this repetitive dream / She knows to save herself / She must change the ending . . . © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Pain —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- CLOSE-UPS / /

We recently did a test shoot for Maria Gonzales and Rogue Artists With very bad rain forecast, we abandoned our location scouting and set about using any available space in her store, including the tea room, out the back and yes, even in the toilet. James was set up in the main shop room with studio lights so hopefully we got a mix of my random roaming around and some nice clear polished shots. I haven’t even made it half way through my shots yet, but here are a few if you’re interested.

Bill and I have shot two weddings over the past couple of weekends, and I thought I would share some of the images with you. Both days had their challenges…the first wedding the sky was incredibly bright and on the second day the camera that we hired for the day had issues (flash hub failed as did the preview and delete button). But it was a learning experience and we came out with knowledge and some fantastic images. You can have a look at some of the images at our blog. Enjoy!

  • Wedding Photography Pricing Help Needed!!

Hey Everyone! / I have a HUGE request of all photographers out there…mainly wedding photographers but if you’re not a wedding photographer, that’s fine. I won’t reject your advice. :) / I have so far booked two weddings—and my first one is in August (the second is about a month later in September)! / I have created a nice website, http://brosephotos.jimdo.com where the couples can see my work in a more professional setting. However, I really need to get crackin’ on these prices… / As a wedding photographer, what do you charge? (PLEEEASE be nice and try to list it in USD…haha.) Do you charge per hour, per image taken, per image printed, or what?? / I need as many tips as possible! Should I do like a flat fee, that covers camera rental cost (cause I want to rent one thats better than the one I currently use for that day), gas, my talent and time? And from there, charge for each sheet printed? Hmm…I like that idea…Haha. What do you all think? Also- a “problem” that I keep running into…how much is too much to charge? I don’t want either me or the couples to be ripped off…I’ve never done this wedding photography thing before so I want to make sure that I’m not under pricing or over pricing, so please give me as many tips as you guys have!! :) Much thanks!!! / -Brittany

I want to provide some stunning additions to the normal wedding shots – but I need people getting married (in Geelong) who’d like some additional pictures. I’m talking infrared, and could produce some stunning heaven pictures in places like the Botty Gardens – or some really great Gothic images for those of a gothic bent. Anyone interested? Let me know and maybe we can come to some arrangement such as I charge only what the prints you want cost (no extra) but get to use some of the images for promotional purposes. Anyone interested?

The big day arrived and we were hoping for a nice breakfast and a gentle run-up to 3 o’clock, very shortly reality would kick-in and we would be running around like headless chickens. We needed to deliver the wedding dress to Michelle’s apartment as it had been waiting nervously in the wardrobe in our hotel room, well away from the inquisitive eyes of the groom. We walked along Baker Street and onto Marylebone road, the sun was just breaking through the clouds and the forecast was for a nice day, the main thing out of our control had been arranged by a higher power! Stepping over a heap of bridesmaids and their belongings we carefully placed the dress somewhere safe and welcomed the girls into consciousness on this bright and happy wedding day, we were glad to see that the bride to be had already gone to have her hair done. The plans were slowly coming together, a cake needed to be transported to the reception venue…Windsor Castle…..no not THAT Windsor Castle, the pub halfway across London! We decided that we had enough hands to carry three tiers of cake and set off dodging the London traffic, the chirpy cockney taxi drivers and Japanese tourists….. We arrived at Windsor Castle with a little over three hours to go and counting, the cake was still in three pieces and completely unharmed! Which was a huge relief, meanwhile the Windsor Castle servants were preparing the food for the masses which were due to arrive later that day………decorations!! The room hadn’t been decorated, so off we went in search of balloons, banners, hanging gardens of Babylon….in fact anything which could be found and used at such short notice. Luckily the flower shoppe where Michelle and Mark had ordered flowers from was just across the road and also a short walk from the church so we decided to check out their selection of balloons and banners, they had a few which were ok but more importantly they asked us who was collecting the flowers for the church!! Mark was supposed to collect the flowers 2 hours earlier and as yet not arrived, a few phone calls were made and as we were deciding what to do one of the groomsmen Luke appeared, we decided to carry the flowers to the church. He did tell us that Marks phone was dead because he hadn’t charged the battery…… The flowers were gorgeous two huge sprays of cream and purple blooms, this is where my flower recognition skills end I am afraid, each spray 5ft tall in a bucket which contained water and possibly a dwarf star, judging by the weight. They were big, no actually they were HUGE! I managed to get my arms around one of the buckets and Luke took the other one. We negotiated 500yards of Main Street being directed by my wife and sister so as not to end up head first in a bucket and become part and parcel of this mighty church decoration…… kerb……….duck, tree…… left….right a bit…..arrive with very wet trousers and arms.……another task successfully completed, albeit a little wetter than before. It was now almost 1pm and we needed to shower and get back to the brides flat and prepare for the wedding, we stopped and bought some sandwiches to eat and asked my sister if she could find banners, balloons etc I took a shower which needs no further explanation or photographic evidence and we walked to the flat or chaotic scene of devastation as it should now be known. Make-up and mascara everywhere, clothes placed ready to be worn, hair being put up, or down and star trek playing to itself on TV…… I got myself ready which if you imagine superman walking into a telephone box, well I am faster than that…the girls took a little longer! The wedding car arrived on cue and, the girls were getting more ready, I chatted to the driver for a while, finally after deciding which blusher goes with which lipstick the girls were ready and off they went in the car. I was left with Michelle looking magnificent, my suit was freshly dry-cleaned and my new shirt and tie looked awesome…oh the bride, she looked amazing as well, I was a proud father and beginning to get a little nervous. We discussed if the veil was up or down and if she had everything for the day, I was passed keys, spare make-up, blackberry, rings, etc……we left for the church. Michelle didn’t want to arrive too soon and we drove around the surrounding streets waving at tourists, we felt like royalty and it was fabulous. On arrival at the church a few photos were taken and the organist played as we waited to enter the church, with my daughter by my side I was a very proud father of the bride.

/ Today is Christmas Eve 2009 and temperatures show the promise of rain …

/ Today is Christmas Eve 2009 and temperatures show the promise of rain for our holiday here in Georgia. Preparations for the season were much different for me this year, as I chose to be more creative in my gift giving. I’ll be honest, I don’t enjoy all the mania I see in the the market places this time of year. Individuals that are forced of necessity to have to serve there, I’m sure think and feel as I do. Yet, I realize that the merchants of the earth are dependant on this jolly ho ho fantasy to fill and feed their financial coffers to get through the end of their fiscal year in the black. In my reflections I wonder how we ever got to this place of making Christmas such a paganized experience. In order to be more politically correct, clerks find themselves fearful of even mentioning the name of Jesus or offering a Christmas blessing to any who patronize their stores. More and more the world is becoming offended by the message the Christmas story brings. Two thousand years ago at the time of our Saviors birth no one had ever heard the term “Merry Christmas.” The people of that region of the world were wrapped in the traditions of men that evolved around many of the Jewish holidays and festivals. The world then wasn’t much different than it is today, over run by rampant sin, greed and a pervasive darkness, The prophets from the time of Genesis foretold of a promised King who would come in the name of redemption. Men had grown weary in the waiting and began to doubt the promises of God concerning the Messiah, much like the Israelites did as they awaited the return of Moses from his vistation with God on a mountian to receive the ten commandments. Their impatience with his return led to reckless abandonment in their thinking and conduct. They had grown weary in well doing and decided they wanted a tangible god, one made after their own perceptions of who and what god was. Moses returned from his mountian top experience to find God’s people filled with a party spirit worshipping a golden calf. On the night of Jesus Christ birth in Bethlehem the world was still in party mode and again wearied in the waiting of their promised King. They had no idea that the God of Heaven was about to visit the earth just as He promised. But this time in the form of a babe lying in manger. The world hadn’t expected their King to arrive by such humble means as having one born in a stable. Once again God resist being placed in the box we humans love to make for Him. What on earth would the world do with an infant King? It was a glorious night for those who had the eye’s of faith to witness our Savior’s birth. But for those who lived in unbelief, it was just another night, like so many others. History tells us, that the world rejected the “Promised One,” not unlike the spirit that works in our world today. Christ is still rejected and scorned of men, as they pursue their life of reckless abandonment to sin. We know that Jesus Christ came for redemptions purposes two thousand years ago and in the years since through his redemptive work he is building an Eternal Kingdom that will reign with Him both in Heaven and on the earth. Today the church is a “bride in waiting,” not for a revisitation of a child to a manger, but for the perfect, spotless “Lamb of God” who will one day return in the same manner in which He left, to receive his bride. I’m eternally grateful that I’m counted among those who are awaiting the return of the Savior to the earth. Two thousand years is long time to wait for the husbandman in human years, but with God, it’s only been a couple of days. Our Savior will return just as He promised and we as Christians are to keep watch in “hopeful expectation” of His return, just as the faithful did on that cold December night that Jesus Christ was born. My final question is, are you a bride in waiting this Christmas? Written By: Barbara A. Carlan 12/24/2009 John 3:16
