Two Tricolour Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies in a basket. They are ‘twins – litter brother and sister and the only two pups in the litter. Getting this shot took quite a while! I tried several different baskets but the pups thought jumping out of them was a new game, not to metion chewing them!!! Eventually they got tired and I arranged them in this basket, woke them up with a squeaky toy and finally got a photo. Featured Image in Cats & Dogs Group on 3rd November, 2008. A fledgling Kookaburra surveys the big world from the safety of the nesting hollow a few days before flying from the nest. I had been watching this nest near my home for weeks (the Kookaburras come back to it every year), observing the adults flying in and out all day, every day, with food for the chicks, and had had a few, brief sightings of the youngsters. But they are very shy and as soon as you see them they retreat back into the hollow. However, on this occasion the little kookaburra seemed fascinated by me and my camera and just sat and watched. I started taking photos from a long way off and gradually moved closer, clicking away on my camera the whole time. Missy, a chestnut Miniature Pony, caring for her new born filly foal. Many foals are born during the night, but this one arrived in the late afternoon/early evening and I was priviledged to be present to not only witness, but also photograph the ever new miracle of the birth of a beautiful foal. I was actually on my way, that day, to photograph the young Kookaburras in the late afternoon light, when I noticed Missy lying down, about to give birth. I forgot the Kookaburras and spent the next couple of hours photographing the whole birth process, the mare cleaning her foal, the foal’s struggles to get to her feet and stay on them and eventually, her first drink. Lexie (left) and her daughter, Tansy, dressed for a snowy winter and ready for Christmas. Believe it or not, this photo was taken on a very hot (36 degrees Centigrade – 97 degrees Farenheight) Australian summer day, outside, in the shade of a gum tree!!! An old sheet over the fence behind depicted a wintery sky and lots of cotton wool was used to imitate snow. Add an artifical Christmas Tree, liberally sprayed with ‘canned’ snow and some green and silver tinsel and summer was transfored to winter! :-) Tansy was not the easiest subject to photograph because she wouldn’t stay still, but eventually she trod on the end of her scarf and that kept her still long enough for me to grab a few shots before she worked out how to move again!! © Copyright 2008 Jenny Brice – All Rights Reserved / www.jennybrice.com Tansy and Lexie look great on a Christmas card, and they also feature (on December, of course) in a Cavalier King Chalres Spaniel Calendar. Giraffe at Sunset is a combination of two images – a Giraffe and a sunset – produced for the Giraffe Silhouette Challenge. The Giraffe was cut from its original photo and turned into a silhouette by adjusting the lighting brightness control in Photoshop Elements. It was then copied and pasted onto the sunset photo.
