Boardwalk along the beach in Inverness, Nova Scotia.
I wanted to try B&W on some of my Cape Breton coastline images. Here is the first taken at a beach in North Shore. 3 Image HDR. RAW photos taken using a Singh Ray Warming Polarizer and 3-Stop Rev Grad Filter. Used PS Elements 6 and infrared effect to convert to B&W. Tweaked the contrast, lighting levels, and used burn tool. I do like my B&W with higher contrast than most would, but that is me.

Dawn this morning on my favorite island. I am visiting Cape Breton for the Celtic Colours International Festival. So far I have seen two wonderful shows, Pipers’ Ceilidh at St Ann’s Gaelic College with pipers from Scotland, Cape Breton, and Cuba and opening night show Common Ground: A Celtic Journey featuring Carlos Nunez from Spain as well as many musicians from Cape Breton, Scotland, Ireland, and Cuba (I guess there are celtic roots there too!). Tonight’s show is Anull gu Aiseag Mhira (Over to Mira Ferry). Inverness Gaelic Choir will be there from Scotland and Cape Breton’s own – Mary Jane Lamond, Wendy MacIsaac, Mairi Rankin, and Patrick Gillis. But the scenery….... is out of this world, and I know I can not do it justice!

The skies over Inverness Beach are always so dramatic…... especially in bad weather. Inverness, Nova Scotia Canada on Cape Breton Island

Sometimes we don’t take the time or energy to notice the beauty around us. Taken on Inverness Beach on Cape Breton. Stormy sky, stiff cold wind blowing off the water, and a muted sunset. I think well worth the freezing hands and salt spray on my camera. My escape from the everyday crazy world.

October 5, 2005, the slope of North Mountain on the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia, Canada. The highlands of Cape Breton Island provide unbelievably bright colours at the peak of the fall season. Winds off the North Atlantic, with onshore fog in the far distance, combined with bright sunshine, make the slopes turn into carpets of living colour. As an artist friend of mine said,” if I did a painting exactly like this, people would say I overdid the colours”. Tours come from all over North America specifically to do the Fall Colours Tour of the Cabot Trail. / Sony DSCF828 camera.
