The break waters on Eastbourne Seafront, Sussex, early one October morning in 2007. Taken with my FZ7.
Golden light of the setting sun bathes seastacks and stone arch surrounded and battered by the rising tides of the Pacific Ocean near Ecola State PArk in Oregon

The Icelandic Harvester. / / When I came across this old vessel moored to the pier my imagination started running wild with scenarios of what life aboard this wooden vessel would have been like. I could almost feel the sineous texture of the ropes as they hung there coated in the ice cold saltwater of the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. I could nearly hear the calls of the sailors as they shouted commands back and forth across her weather beaten decks as the waves crashed down upon her on any one of her numerous voyages. What sights must have been seen as sailors of old lined the rails to peer down at the mysteries of the sea. How many men were lost at sea and how many made it home with wild stories of his adventure aboard the Icelandic Harvester. / / Shot with a Canon 400D and processed in Lightroom 2. / / NautilusBlue / / nominated this image to be showcased in the group Pay It Forward and this is what she had to say… / / Ice Breaker / by Kevin Kroeker / I think it is an outstanding image with great composition ( great leading lines) with lots of drama and the colours are amazing . It shows us the harshness of the climate. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /

As I was photographing this mantis, this katydid suddenly landed about 6 inches away. For about 30 seconds, they faced off, sizing each other up. Shockingly, not only did the katydid NOT back down, but he actually began slowly inching menacingly towards the mantis. B-I-G mistake ! In a nanosecond, the mantis lurched / forward , then grabbed & tightly gripped the katydid’s legs and head. This photo was / taken at the moment of 1st impact! The mantis goes right for the thorax and draws first blood. Nature in action !
The shipping forecast had it spot on – “Malin/Hebrides, South Westerly Severe Gale force 9 increasing Storm force 10, occasionally Violent Storm force 11”. / A good day to leave the boat in the marina and go exploring by land! Easdale is a particularly exposed piece of coast on the west of Scotland, where the sea has an uninterrupted run from Nova Scotia. To give you an idea of scale, the rocks in the foreground are a metre in diameter, they aren’t pebbles. Coincidentally, this ‘beach’ is where my wife and I had our first open water scuba dives .. fortunately the sea was a little calmer then!
Watching the sea pile in to Easdale’s normally sheltered harbour reminded me of the song oft sung by the Vital Spark’s crew: Oh! The Crinan Canal for me, / I don’t like the wild raging sea, / It would be too terrific to cross the Pacific, / Or sail to Japan or Fiji. / A life on the Spanish Main, / I think it would drive me insane, / The big foaming breakers would give me the shakers, / The Crinan Canal for me. For the curious, the harbour entrance is between the rocks in the foreground, and the little rock right of centre .. not the rocks with the breaking wave!
Stark dark clouds coming in over drought affected land between Pinnaroo and Loxton in South Australia. Not a drop fell but it gave the sense of impending rains much needed in that area. The Barb you see is actually the top strand on the original normal stock fence that has been covered over by drifting sands. A new one has been put up behind it.. Quite a scary sight. Just what is happening to our earth??? Nature reclaiming the land? Canon 400D 18-55 lens processed in PS3. HDR originally merged in Photomatix.

Couldn’t resist another visit to Bell’s Beach at dawn this morning to have another crack at the huge surf – and I wasn’t disappointed! It was still powering away. / No HDR tweaking – just some levels adjustment and slight colour correction. Mother Nature did the rest. / Nikon D300 with 70-200 1:2.8G lens and 1.7x extender. /
Original A5 Black Ink Illustration on 110 Gsm Acid free Cartridge Paper I developed a fascination with skulls quite some time ago… the exact reason for which still I’m not sure of, admittedly it is at odds with the things I usually gravitate towards! It began with a skull necklace, painted with Pink Frangipanis & purple swirls… similar drawings followed & a debate was raised about the skull’s “symbolism”... “Can a skull be anything other than a symbol of Death & all manner of evil?”… This little debate furthered my interest & I continued to play with skulls in my art fascinated by the change in perception when hidden amongst or surrounded by things of beauty & nature… Waves & the ocean being one of my greatest inspirations were a natural evolution in this series… admittedly it did turn out to be a little scarier looking than intended! The frangipani headress was probably an attempt to soften it a little! This drawing I did actually begin quite a while ago, but it remained unfinished… until today… Drawing Day! As good a reason as any to finally finish it I thought!
One of a series of shots at Bell’s Beach early one morning when a huge swell was running. / HDR created with tonal adjustment. Textures and colour blend layers added. / Nikon D300 with Nikon 70-200mm lens.
