  • A heap of pics mixed with an iconic image from the Vietnam War As for the title I’ve been listening to a live version of this song all week Great line I’ve also offered it as a challenge to some talented friends Very bignods go to Roger Waters & Huynh Cong Ut DETAIL / I did a wall art for more detail

  • The title says it all You can’t keep things like this in your head or you scream all the time. This is so you can see the detail on the Tee Shirt better

  • Nolan set the yardstick rather high for this challenge with this so I decided to take it in a slightly different direction, also I had about 10 different ideas for this superb brief but this was the only one simple enough to turn into a t-shirt design. / /

  • This image is dedicated to all our miliary men and women who have fought and are currently fighting so we may have freedom. Sept.11, 2001 was 6 years ago today. A day the world will never forget. Many brave men and woman gave their all. Let us not ever forget them…

  • “War is old men talking and young men dying” Odysseus, Troy [the movie] Even if you didn’t like the movie; that’s a quote worth remembering. The t-shirt you see here has taken that quote; mixed it up with Danny’s theme to get: 1. A mushroom cloud of the nuclear variety. 2. The Pentagon, where the old men talk. 3. An F-117 Stealth Bomber, always out of range. These all combine to make a skull [which I told Lucan I’d never use on a t-shirt … but now I have … sort of]. If you think it doesn’t need the text, comment or send me a bubblemail, I have a version waiting in the wings without it.

  • The bravery of being out of range….... Well it’s one of those amazing statements that conjures up a similar image for everyone…WAR For me it was the pilots who were instructed to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But then I continued the train of thought…...... and as the song suggests, and Danny elaborated, we can all be accused of ‘The bravery of being out of range’. It applies to so much of our everyday life. If I had Scott’s talent I would have illustrated a woman giving birth whilst her partner looks on, a teacher in a classroom, or me! attempting to penitrate the bonds of the merry men (how do you illustrate that?). But I don’t have the talent, so what I have created comes back to my original thought….WAR. Sjem quoted “War is old men talking and young men dying” Odysseus, Troy (the movie). I love this statement but does it continue on from there? / Do we perpetuate the story by glorifying its devastation? poets are inspired to write poetry about it / historians are inspired to write documentries about it / film makers are inspired to make movies about it / artists are inspired to create art about it / musicians are inspired to play music about it / designers are inspired to design t-shirts about it (myself included) Maybe, in the end, we all encourage war one way or another – as artists, we speculate on an experience we haven’t had, and therefore are perhaps the truest version of the brave who are out of range. other work by nook

  • Military dog tags on an American flag with a truthful slogan.

  • This was my Grandmother’s Uncle Ernest James Newland V.C. born 1881 died 1949.Captain Newland was the only soldier born in Geelong to receive the Victoria Cross. He was awarded it for outstanding bravery on France’s Western front in 1917,when he led his men, under heavy fire to successfully repel 5 enemy attacks.Captain Newland was badly wounded later that year when the enemy attacked with flame throwers. On July 21,1917 King George V presented the Captain with the V.C for “conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty”.After the war he continued to serve in the reguar army and rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel before retireing in 1942.You can see hs medal(which he is wearing in the pic)on display at the war museum in Canberra.

  • No Place Like Home - The Dream Language of Oz by Karin Taylor
    by Karin Taylor

‘There’s no place like home.’ / ‘If I only had a heart, a brain, some courage’. Do these phrases bear any significance for us and i…

I wrote this a while ago with the intention of starting a new series of paintings on the Wizard of Oz….the idea is still there… I hope to begin a new painting/series soon on the subject. What I have written here, is the unfolding of the research work on my subject…it is important that I gain a deep understanding or insight into my subject, as well as preparing the visual side of things, i like to get a feel for it spiritually, or at least have an empathy with/for my subject/s. I read different editions of the story itself, and look at as many different illustrations as possible, rewatch the movie a few times, and listen to any music associated with it…for example the tracks from the movie, as well as things like Elton John’s and Katie Noonan’s versions of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and eminem’s Yellow Brick Road and Raine Maida – Yellow Brick Road and anything else i can find associated with the imagery of the story… Somewhere over the Rainbow by Judy Garland / Somewhere over the Rainbow Eva Cassidy / Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Kamakawiwo / Fields of Gold Eva Cassidy

  • The kea is the only true alpine parrot in the world. It lives only in the New Zealand alps. This photo was taken at the Fox glacier car park in the South Island. Keas will often come to public places like this and wreck cars by ripping apart roof racks or anything rubber.

  • Grafton Underwood Airfield A Photographic view of RAF Grafton Underwood 2008, also known as USAAF Station 106, Opened in 1941. Declared Surplus in 1959, and now reclaimed by nature. Although today, the majority of Grafton Underwood Airfield has been returned to agricultural use, and most of the site has now crumbled away, Some buildings still remain, in varying condition, evidence is still very visible of its occupancy throughout the war. This work is dedicated to the men and women, who served, lived and died, at these now redundant / demolished and forgotten Airfields, which played such an integral part of the war effort.

  • November 11th, 11th hour, 11 minutes Remember the soldier on the field / Poppies living, but the soldier dead / He fought for your country / He lived his life to die for yours / She fought for us too / Let’s remember the soldiers / Of all wars / Let the Poppy remind us / That fields of blood was / Shed for our freedom.

  • A bald eagle perched atop a bare tree and looking intensely around him reminded me of Rick and Scot, two nephews, who are serving our country in the Middle East, both of them on their second tour of duty, both having served in Iraq and Afghanistan, both with wives and children at home, both brave and giving young men. I would like to dedicate this image (taken at Amelia, Louisiana, on January 1, 2009) to Rick and Scot and to their families who are also very vital components in the defense of freedom. Thank you for your courage and perseverance. God be with you and safeguard you. Aunt Bonnie

  • This was a shot from the side of the road while I was freezing my buns off at the Upper Bear River in the snow. I lived thru the deep stuff from earlier but, after this, I went into deeper and wetter and more stupid places following a woman who could walk on stuff that didn’t support my fat butt. How deep can you sink in a snowdrift? All the way down to China?? Or do you stop somewhere so far down that climbing up isn’t an option? In either event, what does a flatlander do? Learn Mandarin really fast? Start walking in the direction where you didn’t fall thru and hope your head pokes out before you freeze to death? Should I have been wearing a helium balloon with DUMBASS BELOW written on it or had had a rope tied to my foot so someone would have something to pull out of the frozen hell before summer? (sigh) Playing in snow. What a concept.

  • I would like to dedicate this image to all our fallen heroes and their loved ones; please know you will be remembered and appreciated forever. (This image is a composite of three photos, one of a soldier at Fort Polk, Louisiana, one of a flag taken at Spanish Lake in Iberia Parish, one of a country road connecting the rice fields near Kaplan, Louisiana. The background layer is the rice field road; I selected and pasted the flag and the soldier onto this background and used the sliders in the layers palette to control opacity and to give them an other worldly look. The background had the Orton effect applied. All this was done in PhotoShop Elements 6.0 for Macs). This image was inspired by Mark Graham my husband’s cousin, who gave his life in Iraq

  • Words for MY COUNTRY / By: Dale Crum / My Country is called AMERICA… the Land of the FREE and the Home of the BRAVE… My Precious FLAG is RED; dyed in the most costly pigment on planet earth… millions of gallons of rich royal crimson blood… Freely spilled from the hearts of the bravest men, and women our fair land had to offer… and WHITE… the color of blank pages of great hopeful anticipation, for the next wondrous chapters of our grand history yet to be written… and Blessed BLUE… the hallowed Star-filled night sky looming over us all… The indigo heavens which the fallen last looked upon… through blood flooded eyes… whispering brave cries of love… knowing the sparkling kisses of these same fading stars… tenderly cloak their loved ones back home… for whom they willing laid down their precious lives… TRUEST PATRIOTS ONE AND ALL! / I DO THIS DAY CREATE THIS PIECE IN HONOR OF THEE! WOE BE UNTO ALL those who would to denigrate, defile, and slander one drop of their blessed crimson flow… mistake not our pause… as a sign of weakness or of falling… but as a time of prayer and calling… unto the One who forged this land of Blessing, of Protection, of Freedom… for we have been faithful guardians over planet earth… the strong arm of bravery when tyrants sought to oppress… What color flag is it that bludgeoned eyes long to see rise ore the burning horizons of a million scorched hills? Tis the Red, and the White, and Star Kissed Blue! None other flag has given such great hope… none other flag has rescued more prisoners… none other flag has paid such a horrible price… none other flag but mine. Buzzard Fools are circling my flag this darkening day… smelling the air for the stench of death… brushing my sacred banner all too closely… roosting in trees rooted in treasonous bloated bellies… BUT HEAR ME WELL YE COWARDS… THIS EAGLE IS NOT BROKEN… SHE STILL SOARS… AND NOW ROARS OUT HER WARNING… HERE AND NOW… AND FOREVER MORE! SHE IS AMERICA… AND SHE IS MY COUNTRY!
