  • Original was pencil, ink drawing. Wouldn’t you love to do be able to do this sometimes? Often we are required to put on a face that does not reflect how we feel. This is kind of the idea that we can do this and still keep the integrity of our real feelings below.

  • Mark, an American soldier, gave his life for his fellow countrymen in the war in Iraq. The only one of his unit to survive the initial blast, he battled for life as he was flown back to the United States for medical care. His family flocked to his side and surrounded him with love in his final hours. Not long after his arrival in America, he died on home soil in the arms of his loved ones. His mother Kim, my husband’s first cousin, wrote this poem, “Is it you?” as she struggled with grief and loneliness for her young son. She asked me if I had a dragonfly photo to accompany her poem which relates the tale of the dragonflies that seem to hover near her in a show of consolation. This image is our collaboration, our joint effort, in memory of Mark Graham who defended the cause of freedom with steadfast determination and a valiant heart. May he rest in peace and may the angels surround him and his family now and forever. (100% of proceeds from sales will go to the Mark W. Graham Foundation; see another image, “Is it you?” in this portfolio if you’d like a green dragonfly. It will print better in the card size). Taken from the Mark W. Graham Foundation website, here is additional information about the foundation to which all funds from the sales of these images will be donated: “The Mark W. Graham Foundation is a non-profit organization which provides support for young people of character and military families in crisis. It honors the legacy of Mark Graham, a fallen soldier whose strength of character and gift of service to his country are an inspiration to all who knew him. Mark was a Lafayette, La., native and his death opened the community’s eyes to the reality of war and the sacrifice soldiers make in their fight to keep our country free. He was married to Stephanie for a little more than a year when he died. Mark was 22 years old.”

  • A brave mouse indeed. or foolish?

  • Digital Art : A native American gazes at the moon. (Formerly published as a magazine cover.) / Note: All my digital art work is executed entirely with my mouse and Photoshop Elements’ brushes. It takes hours of concentration, patience and self control. Especially when the mouse wants to go right and you need it to go left! When this happens , I reluctantly leave my office and go for a stroll in my garden. / That usually takes care of the problem and then, I get back to work :)

  • White tulips on an American flag.

  • A young brave is watching in the shadows of the trees. All executed from scratch. In Photoshop Elements I choose a blank “canvas” then I select a brush and start drawing/painting. Again, I take a huge dose of “patience.” :) /

  • Oil Pastel and Acrylic On Paper Concept: This is one of the many in Ophelia’s Love Encounters Series, it’s her experience of many facets of this wonderful thing called LOVE.. This is what she has to say about love today : ” Love makes you feel larger than life, gives you the courage to conquer all odds at hand.” Love in many of my quotes and paintings is open to personal interpretations, doesn’t necessarily mean love in the romantic sense. / You can view and buy my other “Love Makes You Feel Larger Than Life” creations at my Zazzle Gallery:

  • This weekend (Aug. 29 thru Sept. 1, 2008) marks both the official end of summer AND the celebration of the 62nd Powwow of the Shinnecock / (pronounced Shin-E-Cock) Indian Nation. Located at Southampton, Long Island , NY reservation, it’s drummers, singers, and dancers come from across the USA & beyond to gather , reminisce, sing, eat, camp together and sell/buy Indian made goods. It is a deeply felt spiritual time, for this is when I return to the land of one set of my ancestors to stroll the land, greet old friends, smell the smoke, photograph, eat fry bread, and hear the drummers drum and singers sing. It is a time for remembrance. / ~~ This image was FEATURED in Spirit of the Native Indian-October 2008 / ~ It has been viewed in excess of 450 times. Thank you EVER so much.

  • Lord of the Indian Jungles, The Royal Bengal Tiger, Portrait The Bengal Tiger, or Royal Bengal is a subspecies of tiger primarily found in Bangladesh, India, and also Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Myanmar and southern Tibet. It is the most common tiger subspecies, living in a variety of habitats, including grasslands, subtropical and tropical rain forests, scrub forests, wet and dry deciduous forests, and mangroves. Since the early 1990s the tiger population has begun to decline again, due to habitat destruction and large-scale poaching for tiger skins and bones. The Bangladeshi government is trying hard to show the world that the tiger is thriving in Bangladesh, often using controversial techniques like taking molds of paw prints to track tiger populations. It was recently discovered that tigers have been wiped out from one of Project Tiger’s leading sanctuaries, Sariska. The current population of wild Bengal tigers in the Indian subcontinent is now estimated to be between 1,300 and 1,500 which is less than half of the previous estimate of 3,000-4,500 tigers. This estimate is based on a state-by-state census conducted in India in 2001. Today’s reports show there are fewer than 200 tigers left in the wild. Habitat losses and the extremely large scale incidences of poaching are serious threats to species survival. Poachers kill tigers not only for their pelts, but also for body parts used to make various traditional East Asian medicines. Other factors contributing to their loss are urbanization and revenge killing. Farmers blame tigers for killing cattle and will shoot them. Poachers also kill tigers for their bones and teeth to make medicines that are alleged to provide the tiger’s strength. The hunting for Chinese medicine and fur is the biggest cause of decline of the tigers. In India, retired Indian Army personnel are being recruited to save the Bengal tiger from poaching gangs.
