A Stellar Sea Lion colony at Brat Chirpoev in the northern Kuril Islands. / You could hear this colony well before you could see it. This area is often enshrouded in mist due to cold northern current mixing with a warm current from the south.
This image was made for “la marelle” éditions. Thanks for looking :-)

waves of light, / in the dark of night, / guiding my way of sight, / to shun the darkness to bright… in the shadows lurks a knight / hiding, ready to pounce! to fright! o light… / shine…, yes shine to a blazing height, / cover him with your flames of might… alas…!! now!... retreats he, in shadows, plight / in askance of the blinding light, / back to the abyss like a drunken mite… o waves of light… / indeed a good fight, / frightened have you, the dark knight… / another laurel for being right, / vision, acumen and insight!!!!

Taking flight over the Sacramento River just north of Sacramento, this heron was being fairly patient with me. He kept a respectable distance between us that the telephoto easily bridged. But along came some kids on dirt bikes, illegally riding up an down the sandy edge of the waterline. I tried to scare the little brats off before they ruined my shot but the heron wasn’t even going to deal with it and he ‘ran on the water’ enough to wing it outta there. And would you believe that little punks disappeared as soon as they saw me with the camera and tripod start running towards them. I would have yelled at them until they cried if I could have. I guess it’s all the better I didn’t get the opportunity. I might have gotten really annoyed and tried to see just how far out in the river I could fling a dirt bike… >:-(
Jake is in a bratty mood. He jumped up on the table beside my chair and sniffed my tea and then turned to contemplate attacking the tree.
lol ok i couldn’t help it. Jake kept going under the tree after the bows on the packages so i finally grabbed one and stuck it on his head. can you tell what he thought of that idea?
I bet you can guess what this title means, especially if you have, have had, or have seen the pre-adult form of humans. There are so few of them that were like me: bored out of my mind unless in nature and then, respectful of it. Not the brats of today. Oh noooooooooooooooo! These heartless crumb snatchers will chase down a small turkey and surround it just to watch its tormented attempts at escape. They will throw things at squirrels, try to catch napping geese and ducks, and generally make a pain in the butt for both the animals and the people interacting with them. Parents are not immune here, either. They are watching their little monsters do stuff like this and only apologize to me if they happen to feel guilty enough – rarely. I didn’t see or hear the approaching brats from behind me as I was too focused on the close-ups of this pigeon. But once the intruder got without an unsafe distance, all the birds took to flight immediately and again I’m buried in peanut husks, shells, along with anything else loose on the ground like leaves. One long hard stare at the grinning parents was all I needed to get an apology from them but, know what? Doing what these kids were doing is now illegal in the park! There are signs posted saying you just about can’t do anything with the wildlife but feed it, shoot it, or watch it. There’s a city operator number to call if you see it happening for immediate response. And know what else? I have a camera and can ID anyone for the cops if necessary. Thanks to someone finally getting fed up with brats messing up, McKinley Park may become a kinder and gentler place for wildlife and the people who respect it. Of course, capturing a shot like this one won’t be as easy: the startled backwards departure of a pigeon probably won’t happen in front of me. LOL! But I think ALL will be happier in the end since happy birds make for happy feeding and happy squirrels just make for happiness in general!

It looks like a “studio setting” but the photo was taken right on the cross-country ski trail where River pulls me on skis. She still has little flakes of snow on her nose tip to “prove” it! It’s the second time I tried to use a little effect – just to make her look a little more “civilized” and serious than she is! :) So all being said and done, I’m sure River likes to have the proceeds of the sale of her profile be helpful to nature and her friends in the wild. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.
God it seems like just yesterday when I was just a lil brat getting into all kinds of trouble, back home I had a fence line almost the same as this picture and when I did something wrong I would walk real slow around that bend because my Father was usually waiting therefor me with that DAMN switch already in hand !
River loved the woods, any large piece of forests where she could find foxes, deer, moose and wolves, or even a piece of woods just has trees would make her heart “leap”. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park
This is how Fred was behaving prior to the session on Sally – and yet she was still kind to him! Definitely Saint Sally!
