It has been an exciting week since I took the plunge to become a full-time artist. Here’s a special little story regarding “Starburst Pony” / & Skyhorse’s lovely Appaloosas. I received an email from a winery in Texas USA requesting the use of / “Starburst Pony” on the wine label they will be releasing for their new / wine as they had seen the image on the internet. I contacted the winery to find out more & as a result I can now say that the original painting / of “Starburst Pony” is also on its way to Texas to hang in pride of / place at the winery. I’m so excited I can’t believe it. Once all the final details are in place I will upload a pic of the label & / I have to say it is a stunner – very bright & eye catching. “Starburst Pony” is on the front with the winery’s name & the name of their new wine, made / from a Texas white Zinfandel grape, & a Texas star there as well - / which will be released by Thanksgiving this year. My name, / artist profile & website address will be on the label on the / back of the bottle. This is a new winery which has just opened this / month. The winery have since invited me to visit there, should I be travelling to / Texas in the near future & will do an event featuring me & the artwork. / I haven’t had time to let my feet touch the ground yet! How the painting of “Starburst Pony” came about is an unusual one. / It was the same day Skyhorse’s lovely Appaloosa mare had her / horrific accident with a star picket impaled into her chest, November / 2008. / I had been working on an oil commission all day & packed up the / oils, just wanting to paint a couple of little acrylics to take to the gallery / at Bellingen two days later. Since a couple of the “Painted Ponies” / series had already sold from there, I decided to do two small ones. / But one was going to be an Appaloosa horse & my inspiration for / the painting was her lovely leopard mare “Harli” who had just foaled / a lovely blanket filly “Elle” with a love heart on her rump. I uploaded the painting on to RB, knowing Skyhorse would love it. / This was the first Appaloosa “Painted Pony” I had done – the name / was from Appaloosas often being called starburst horses. When I read about Harli’s tragic accident I could not believe it. She / was in a serious way & had a very young foal at foot. We were all / devastated to hear of her near fatal injury & everyone sent their best / wishes & prayers to Skyhorse, hoping that Harli pulled through. She did thankfully, & I sent Skyhorse the card of “Starburst Pony” / to hopefully cheer her up. I know what it’s like when your beloved / horse has a serious injury or is sick. It is an extremely stressful / time, not to mention lack of sleep. After picking up the little painting from the gallery when it closed / down I exhibited it, but no one bought it so “Starburst Pony” has / been at home here, as I decided to keep it, along with the other / one I painted on the same day “Rainbow Pony.” But it was not / meant to be….....there were bigger & better things that the Universe / had planned for this little miniature, it’s off to Texas to be proudly displayed in it’s new home. So thank you to Skyhorse for the inspiration of her beautiful horses, / to Harli & Elle…...... / & I only just realised a couple of days ago that Harli’s love heart / is almost in the same spot where “Starburst Pony’s” is…......blew / me away. An added note: Harli is expecting another foal in October 2009 & we / have come up with a couple of special names for the foal, but I / believe Skyhorse’s other Appy mare is also expecting at the same time / as well. We can’t wait to see the new arrivals! Thanks everyone for reading this special little story & I hope to paint another spotted “Painted Pony” in the future.

I don’t know about you, but I came across this quirky image tonight. It’s an old article from apartment therapy . Yes, they have very nice apartment design ideas, but this particular issue featured High Art of Recycled Junk . I’m not sure about the High bit, but the junk definitely looks interesting. by Régis Mayot / . / . / . / I especially like the skeletal plastic bottle and the contrast between the offending plastic material vs. the ephemeral quality from the casting of their shadow. Something along the lines of permanent vs. transient….? At least that’s the feeling I got from it. I went on Regis mayot , the artist’s website but Alas, he’s french, and so is everything on his website…. So I’ll never really know what he’s trying to say….. or will I? Oh well, anyhow, found a couple more interesting ‘Recycled plastic vs. light’ artwork from him. Enjoy! Article from Art on Everyday Material Group

It seems the litter problem along the Barrier Highway in New South Wales between Nyngan and Cobar is a concern. The Cobar Age, Cobar Weekly and Nyngan Observer have published the writing I posted here last week – Abusing the Australian Landscape – after I submitted it to them. . I’ve been out of action for a few days and it seems like it could be a few more. I fell over of all things, something we don’t really do as adults much eh? I’d just bought a new camera lens and was engrossed in reading what was on the box as I walked along, just couldn’t wait till I got home. Crossing the road I caught the front on my boot on the tip of the centre island and down I went!!! No hands out (they were clutching the lens) and my face spread out over the pavement. Blood pouring out from the corner of my head where my glasses, all bent to buggery, had embedded themselves into it. Immediately a crowd formed, where do they come from? I don’t know about you but I’m a bit funny over having a fuss made of me (maybe it’s a man thing) and couldn’t wait to escape the helpers. Lucky for me across the road was an opticians and if I was going to get anywhere near driving home I needed to get my specs right side up. I walked into the shop glasses all this way and that, blood running down my face, the site of me would have disturbed anyone, but the assistant I came across says “Can I help you?” …………………. / ……….. “what are you f*g blind?” says I. / I was in a nasty mess, came over all queasy and passed out. Next thing I wake up and I’m surrounded by men in white coats. “where am I?” I ask. / “why don’t you tell us where you think you are”. / Don’t you hate it when they say that? / So we go along with the guessing game and as it turns out of course I’m in the hospital. They want to take tests now and keep me in overnight for observation. / “Wait!, before you go …. where’s my camera?’ / “Don’t think you’re in any condition to have your photo taken sir”………………………………................. he jokes,… well I was wondering. Haven’t you ever visited your local Doctor and the receptionist says “Are you here to see the Doctor?” they have a weird sense of humour those health specialists. / I still got rather panicky as it’s years since I’ve been on the inside of a hospital apart from having my tonsils out when I was six. By now my voice had increased in volume. I’m a singer and I could tell I was heading towards soprano!) / The Dr tells me to settle down and not to worry … it’s all routine and he would appreciate me keeping my voice down so I don’t disturb the patient in the next bed who was not so fortunate. / With that they move away and leave me alone with my thoughts and the unlucky person next to me. Almost at the same time the white curtains are drawn back by a nurse who had been in attendance revealing the man next to me covered in bandages and plasters. Legs up in the air with support stirrups tubes and stuff. Horrible!! / As the nurse moved off he made an attempt to call out to her which was difficult having one of those masks strapped around him. / “Nurse” he calls “can you tell me please are my testicles black?” / For a nurse she seems a little unsure of what to say, even embarrassed. She moves away to the exit so he calls again “Nurse, can you see? are my testicles black?” / She steps back towards the bed and tells him that she’s really only there to give him a wash and brush up and that maybe he could wait for the regular Dr to arrive, but he seems adamant. “I just want to know if my testicles are black” he mumbles. / She glances across at me and I make as though I absorbed by a five year old tatty copy of Woman’s Weekly. Pulling back the bedclothes she gently tugs down his pyjama bottoms and carefully takes his ‘tackle’ in her palm. “they seem alright to me” / He wants to say more and gestures for her to wait a moment whilst he manoeuvres the mask from off his face. “ Thankyou, that was very nice, but .. Are my test results back!”

Several weeks ago, I had spotted some dust behind my LUMIX FZ30’s lens. I shipped my FZ30 to Authorized Panasonic Repair/Service center. The outcomes would be one of following: 1: The lens can be cleared of dust, camera re-conditioned and sent back. (About $250AUD) / 2: The lens has to be replaced, camera re-conditioned and then sent back. (About $400AUD or more) / 3: If #2, would I prefer to have an FZ50, ex-show model, that is still under warranty. FZ30 still returned. Well, I now have an FZ30 and an FZ50. I have to admit, it is a step in many ways. I can still use the FZ30, but that dust makes auto-focus, especially for macros very dicey. It can be easily used for Non-macro shots (scenics, portraits etc) because I can edit the ‘mote’ out should it appear. A few of the improvements: I can set the external flash settings to manual or have the camera manage it. (Manual, fershure) 10.1 megapixels. All the equipment I got for the FZ30 will work with the 50. The first photo taken with the FZ50.
