Royal Border Bridge spans the River Tweed between Berwick-upon-Tweed (the northernmost town in England) and Tweedmouth in Northumberland, England. It is a Grade I listed railway viaduct built between 1847 and 1850, when it was opened by Queen Victoria. The engineer who designed it was the famous Robert Stephenson (son of George Stephenson). It was built for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway and is still in regular use today, as part of the East Coast Main Line. The bridge is 659 metres long. It has 28 arches (only a few arches visible here), constructed of brick but aesthetically faced with stone. The bridge is 38 metres above the river itself. In the 1990s it underwent significant repair work for the first time. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix. Reading links from the atmospheric optics site it looks as if it could be a ‘low’ (rain)bow … linked to the sun (erm…what sun…teehee) being high in the sky…. ;))

2 bright little ‘oppies’ (Optimists) waiting for tiny sailors .. Taken at St Mary’s Loch in the lovely scottish borders these beginners dinghies are great first boats for developing early skills and confidence. Nikon coolpix 4800
For Jan Timmons whose wonderful forum thread here has been the most enjoyable and thought provoking fun… A wonderfully sited bench on the shore of st mary’s loch, enjoyed by the club sailors there and a resting spot for visitors and hikers along scotlands southern upland way. Running runs from coast to coast this bit of the path goes along the lochside between historic Traquair and the Tibbie Shiels inn.. both places with fascinating history… Taken 5/6/09 with a witness to attest this is scotland and the sky really was this colour… !! ... tho it was chilly enough for the capsizing sailors there…LOL.. :)) Nikon D60 / Nikkor lens VR 18-200 / UV filter / Tripod and selftimer!!! f/13 / 1/160sec / ISO200 / 18mm Cheers and thanks heaps for looking / :))))))
Townsfolk turned out in their thousands the 200 riders cross the river tweed on their annual rideout to mark the towns boundaries and to ford the river tweed during the annual week-long Beltane festivities in the town. A thrilling sight however many times you see it… Luckily the river was low and the crossing uneventful… tho divers waited nearby just in case / Nikon D60, Nikkor 18-200 VR lens, UV filter / f 5.6 / 1/125 sec / ISO-800 / exp bias -0.7 / 170mm Really pleased with how this came out as it was a first time really getting my head round the ISO settings… taken at 9pm – no flash…didnt want to scare the horses…LOL…
Two classes of racing dinghy approach the finish line at st marys loch in the lovely scottish borders… The blue sails are the enterprise dinghy .. great two handers that are tippy and responsive – great fun to roll-tack in the changeable and downright flukey winds here that whistle over and round the surrounding hills.. The red sails belong to boats from the mirror fleet.. wonderful wooden boats with 3 sails great for cruising and racing ..ideal for youngsters learning as well as more experieced helms to singlehand.. Cheers for looking,.. and for Sue below here’s a couple more.. the seadog,, awaiting his masters return.. and a motley crew…LOL..
8 week old border collie Mojo. I took this series of photos for a friend of mine Jodie who lost her 16 week old puppy tragically. The puppy was diagnosed with a genetic brain disorder and had to be put to sleep. Jodie decided it would be easier on her emotionally to get another baby straight away. 4 days later they brought home Mojo. Joy and Happiness has been restored.
