This photo was taken at the Animal Welfare League in Wingfield, South Australia. No photoshop was used other than to alter the colours a bit. The puppy’s smile, although blurred due to depth of field (i was using a 50mm f/1.4 at 1.4 focussing only on her eyes) was real! This puppy was adopted shortly after.

I just happened to take my camera with me when I took my dog Jess, to the local beach. Jess decided it was much nicer lying on the beach than walking on it so I just lay opposite her and fired off a few shots. She’s very used to me taking shots so she just waited patiently for me to finish. Nikon D3 / 17-35mm lens / f/2.8

This is Bella, she is a very special dog who has had a crazy first year of life….At 9 weeks old Bella and her owners were out for a walk, they were approached by a person walking 2 rotti x’s the lady proceeded to yell from a distance that her dogs were friendly about at the same moment they broke out of her grip, they attacked Bella as well as one of her owners who was trying to protect there 10yr old daughter. Bella ended up with a Punctured lung, and many more bites all over her tiny 9 week old body, it was unclear if she would survive…Well she did they say she will live a normal puppy life but very scary and thousands of dollars in vet bills later….about 5 months later, Bella’s owners were away and had gotten some friends to puppy sit….the friends took Bella Camping and suddenly Bella was very ill, vomiting and seizing they rushed her to the vet and after a very hairy 24hrs of seizing and such they stabilized her, they figure she got into the crab bait and had sever salmonella poisoning….now almost a year old bella is healthy and happy with only minor side effects caused by her past….. Well I’ve finally finished the Collie sketch, and it has tken me a total of 7 hours and 10 minutes (I think my fastest yet for this size of paper). This was sketched on thick 180gsm lightly textured artist paper, size A2 (420×594). I used four Pentel mechanical pencils (sizes 9mm -2B, 7mm-2B, 5mm-4H and 3mm-2H leads).
