Cast light and careful shadows. It took 4 different shoots with the same concept to get the image that I wanted, but I think it was well worth it. Canon Rebel XT w/ 18-55mm kit lens.
Enjoy!
Ink on paper illustration from a book I have written and illustrated. This character is largely inspired by Edgar Allan Poe and an array of depressive songwriters I have encountered.

I’ve updated and played with my original version of this one, which you can find here / There’s much more going on here with extra layers, drawings and I’ve drawn some text too. / Hope you like!
This is Annabella – she loves her home, and feels a strong connection to the tiny town she grew up in. She would love to stay there forever – home is definitely where her heart is!

Airbrushed and mixed media My Work Was Featured In Fantasy Art / (Thanks Everyone) Read the Collaboration of Written Work by Tony Hedger Part 2 of 2 / The way to get there is many in choice, / But a good first step is the inner voice. / By air, or water, by earth or fire, / Fairyland is your hearts desire. There you are free, all you can be, / And everything is real. / You could sit for a while, / Upon a sundial, / And chase the rays of the light, / You could float on the air, / Without any care, / Or fly with butterfly wings. / Buzz with the bees, and fly through the trees, / Float down with the falling leaves. You could go on a boat, / Through sparkling waters, / Made out of the shell of a tortoise. / Sit in the ring where the fairies all sing, / Drink, dance, fairy fling. / Diddle on the fiddle, play fairy in the middle, / Sparkle, shine, drink buttercup wine. / T’is close, you must believe, / Just follow the voice from within. It has been raining here for a week now and I was bored.. / Many many thanks to Eb for the candle (she told me to say that) and thankyou to my lovely Mum for the loan of her books xxx and of course to The Carpenters for the title… :~) Rainy Days and Mondays by The Carpenters
I love to read. It takes me to places that I would never get to see. I get to visit new time periods. Meet people I could never otherwise meet. And see magical creatures. I can fight with pirates, or save a king. I can fly on a dragon, or talk to a fairy. Books can make you cry, laugh or tickle your imagination. Books ARE magic. Thats what I thought of while painting this piece. I took great pleasure in thinking of the countless hours I’ve spent reading wonderful books. I tried to show the books coming alive for the little girl, I hope it looks like it. This painting just flowed from my mind. I loved every minute! *Credits: The adorable little girl I used for reference is Anna from astrals-stock and can be found here: http://astrals-stock.deviantart.com/

In this design I was playing around with the concept of how people judge one another. I chose to do this in a paint-by-numbers style so that at first glance, people have no choice but to judge where which colors go. The purpose of which is to prove them wrong. / I tried this on several people, most of which assumed she had a pink shirt and blue eyes and blond hair, which is partially right, but not quite. / A person has to get to know this shirt before they realize she has pink and blue hair. At which point, they know her true colors. / This shirt is a physical representation of the personal judgments we make on others, especially those who appear different. This is what the image would actually look like if she were colored in. / special thanks to johnston photography and Loriel Andre’a for their help and professionalism in my artistic process! © This work is copyright by Nadine Smith 2008 under Australian law. / Please respect original works
part of a ttv (through the viewfinder) series Theory: / TTV (Through The Viewfinder) photography is when you use an old medium format camera and a digital camera. / These old medium format twin reflex cameras have large viewfinders. Firstly you compose your image using the medium format camera (in my case i have used a mamiya c33) then you actually take the picture using a digital camera (here i use my pentax K10) of what is in the viewfinder of the old camera.

We have some excellent and exciting news. And it’s about photobooks. “What’s that? Are you finally doing photobooks?
