  • Taken at Lugu Lake, nestled in the Himalayas in China’s Yunnan province. The Mosuo people live in various villages scattered around Lugu Lake and are considered one of the last matriarchial cultures in the world. They are famous for their culture practice of the “walking marriage” (or as they call it literally “friend marriage”) where a man can visit a girl at night and if she likes him will sleep with him; but he must leave by morning. If the girl has a child s/he will be raised fatherless by her and her family. Apparently the real father may be referred to only as “uncle” by the child.

  • Photograph. Pendle Witch Country, in the Lancashire Pennines, is an area lying between (but also including) the north western edge of Bronte Country and the Ribble Valley, to the north and north east of which are Bowland, and the south western Yorkshire Dales respectively. The area is dominated by the dark brooding mass of Pendle Hill and made famous (nay infamous) for its grim and fiendish association with the “Witches of Pendle”… Places in and around Pendle Witch Country: Downham, this photo taken from the churchyard where some original Pendle Witches are buried.

So as he played guitar (or at least tried), I played around with different exposures, contrasts, black lighting etc. Plus I got him to stay perfectly still for about 5 seconds :) which is sometimes hard to do. This style is a first for me, its experimental! :D FEATURED! in / Night Photography / Experimental / 1620

  • this is a photo of my boyfriends brother, Josh. / Josh has autism. He is quite a character too. / Josh can be REALLY happy..excited..full of joy and laughter. / He is intrigued by the faces around him. / He doesn’t really talk that often, he laughs more than he talks to be honest. / He loves to observe what is going on in his surroundings. / It’s like watching a little kid just learning about the world…so curious. / When we have bonfires in Adam’s backyard, Josh will sit by it with bright eyes and a big smile. He loves watching the fire crackle and pop. It makes him laugh. / I took this photo because i wanted to capture that thought he might have been having at that moment. / I know its not super clear, its quite hard when you’re laying on the ground and have no tripod and no using any light except for that coming from the fire itself. I hope you like this photo and this story. / He makes me realize that nobody should feel sorry for people with mental disorders..because they’re happier more than half the time that we are…and they don’t care about the simple stresses we have everyday. • New Years Eve 2006 found me on a farm out past Toowoomba, Australia, where we had the biggest bonfire I’ve ever seen! For this I was grateful, as even though it was summer it was unseasonably cold. After enjoying the lighting of the fire I turned around to see the red light from the bonfire reflecting on these two trees, while the moon sat watch above. This photograph inspired we to write the following short verse: The trees stand watch. Sentinels of the night. / Souls ablaze. / Forever vigilant. Guarding the innocent sleep. / Healing the troubles of the mind. / Igniting the passions of the heart. / Whispering sweet dreams of comfort. Standing always for the spirit of truth. / Accepting the perfection of what is. Loving without question. / Giving without thought. / Laughing with youthful abandon. Rest well. Be at Peace. The trees stand watch. Always.
