But while they thus cried out against him, there appeared the Goddess Athené, very fair to see, with the spear of gold in her hand; and she spake, saying, “From the banks of Scamander am I come, for I heard the cry of one that called upon my name. And now I would fain know what meaneth all this that I see. Who art thou, stranger, that sittest clasping this image? And who are ye that are so strange of aspect, being like neither to the Gods nor to the daughters of men?” Then the Furies made answer, “We will tell thee the matter shortly, daughter of Zeus. We are the children of Night, and we are called the Curses, and our office is to drive the murderer from his home.” Then said the goddess, “And whither do ye drive him?” “We drive him to the land where no joy abideth.” “And why do ye pursue this man?” “Because he dared to slay his mother.” / I have done alot of Photoshop work in the past year. I took an ass kicking from my photoshop teacher Charles. And it pissed me off so much I made this. / Funny how that works. I can honestly say that this is the proudest over a peice of work I have ever been

Ink, tea, watercolour and pencil on paper. / Drawing I did whilst reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire. / When the Wizard of Oz first appears he is really a strange visual paradox – grand and terrifying but also ridiculously phony and, frankly, a little tacky.

I got sick of beakfaces and lizards momentarily and decided to paint some fishies – literally, goldfish…I’ve applied patches of gold leaf to their little heads. Despite being distracted by Eurovision I managed to finish it this weekend!! This one will probably be at Brunswick St Gallery in their small works show, June 6th. About 20×20cm, watercolour, chalk pastel etc on canvas. These enlargements are bigger than life size:

In the bestiary there’s also a garden. It’s walled off though, so the beasts can’t trample it! I loved painting the undulating fin shapes of this piece, so I had to do another. 15×30cm, watercolour, chalk pastel, ink, conte, iridescent pigments and copper leaf on canvas. In this one you can see the shiny copper:

Anatomy of the AT-AT / Since the Dark Side started using genetically modified walkers, they found many had to visit the Imperial Veterinary Clinic of Osteology suffering with acute pain in their hip joints. X-rays revealed their skeleton structure was just not strong enough to manoeuvre wearing those heavy boots. No amount of Cod Liver oil would ease their pain. Some curious beasts indeed! First time drawing horses…as an adult anyway. I used to draw them all the time as a kid. Not quite like this though. Watercolour, ink and chalk pastel on canvas.
