by mercelaniseA portrait of Jesus Christ with bubble-like clouds and bubbly scallops at the end of one of the background graphics. I chose to depict Jesus in this graphic manner without fleshtones in order to overthrow the stereotypical Jesus that is widely familiar to the public therefore taking a step toward making HIS image more inclusive to people of all cultural backgrounds. I do admit that HIS facial structure and wavy hair excludes the characteristics of many cultures.

16 inches by 16 inches. / Sharpie marker on white illustration board. The design for this piece was taken directly from a jack of hearts playing card, which, in turn, was from a deck of jumbo index playing cards made by bicycle. And, I am aware that the titular daggers are in fact axes in this drawing, but I wanted to stay as true to the imagery and patterns used on the card as possible, while re-arranging the iconography to suit my needs.

This leaf seemed to be making a strong, bold statement as it rested on the root of this tree…bold against the green mosses growing there, bold against the breezes that sought to carry it away. How can something so inanimate seem to say so much?! (taken near Milton, PA – October 13th, 2008)

This is an acrylic painting of some wolves. I am trying to be very expressive and colorful with my paintings. This one is full of bright color and bold strokes! This painting represents the plight of these animals. The blood red background signifies the bloodshed wolves have endured over the centuries. The white line pulsates with life and then flatlines, representing the death of the animals and extinction if we do not protect what is left. Parts of the wolves fade away, the leg and a tail….they are disappearing before our eyes…....
