OK Red Bubbler’s… A moment of curiosity… what type of cameras and lighting equipment are you using? Digital or film? If digital are you shooting DSLR or point and shoot? I will start… On the road: Nikon D70s and Nikon D2Xs each with the 18-70mm lens and a 60mm fixed focal length lens that is my favorite. Just sold the 70-200mm VR lens and the wide angle 12-24mm… In the Studio: The above and on rare occasions on location a Mamiya 645D with the ZD digital back. I no longer shoot film but I have a fridge full of it just incase… Studio light system is the Profoto Acute 2 2400 and 2 Opus OPL-K500s all with soft boxes, snoot’s screens and barn doors. Computer wise… an old by todays standards, dual processor G4 Power Mac, 23” display and a Power Book laptop. 4 and half terra-bytes of storage (can you say back-up and often?) My main application is Photoshop CS3 but use many plug-ins as well as Apples Final Cut Studio for various jobs and special effects. I also us on occasion Poser, lightwave 9 and a couple of other apps to help achieve the desired result. I have yet to figure out Adobe’s Lightroom or Apples Aperture… bridge seems to work just fine for me. If you are a Nikon user I would highly recommend getting there Capture NX, nothing better for working with people and skin tones. and it is fully functional only with Nikon raw file. So lets see what is used out there… No opinions on which you believe is best, just a survey of what is being used please…

You say I gave you your freedom. / Your strength. / Your inner voice. / No, Honey… but I do know what you mean! You had all those already! / You, yourself, have freed them! I only helped you listen, / I only made you believe! / I only helped open your eyes; / So that you, might one day see… I only helped you realise… / Your true potential, / Your awesome inner beauty! / What a truly special person you are, and indeed, always will be! / ...Not only, to just little ol’ me! It is I, who should be thanking you, dear one! / For what, you have given me! You too, made me listen! / You too, made me believe! / It is you, who opened my eyes… / You, who made me see! To feel the way I do right now; / Is to know, what freedom really is! / The truest sense of freedom… I have always wanted! / ...Always needed! You have helped me grow as a person, / And for that, dear one; / I thank you… with all my heart, with all my soul; / ...With all my being! x

So yeah, everybody has been raving about their magnificent cards. Last week i ordered 8 or my own images on cards….......waited, got my email…they are on their way (yawn), my postie (who i love) drove on his motor down the drive, knocked on the door to hand them over (told you he was loveable-he does this on occasion if the envelope is big) so ‘bye’ to postie….on to other work. Later today opened my package..THEY ARE BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!! The images are tighter that my originals and the text is so clear (this was my worry)....oh, oh, oh, if you haven’t already, treat yourself. I am off to bask in my euphoric glow and touch them again!

They did? well then. This post severs no purpose other than letting me post up some shots of my arms, all covered in coconut oil and glistening, which…believe me no one needs to see. So, on with the pictures ay Daredevil El Che my dawg, who is possibly the best dog ever, but an insanely tricky photo to take with the camera half upside down and my arm twisted around Hellboy – which is mostly finished, still got a bit to go Christ I’m hairy =/

OK, I’ve been doing a ton of soul-searching about this obsession of mine. I have decided to take the nyip professional photography course and hopefully pursue my passion on a more professional level in the future. (Most likely a combination of portrait work and stock photography) So, here are my questions for all of you (Nikon, Canon, etc….no matter)..... 1. If money were no object, what would be your dream dslr? ...just have to know! ( ; 2. How about a more manageable budget? (I am blessed to bypass the $1000 range) 3. What lenses do you prefer to work with? How about a lens that can work for macro and some portrait work? 4. Are there any fun accessories that you cannot live without? ex: lensbabies, fisheye, etc 5. What accessory flash do you recommend?

Body of work that is. ;) It is with great pleasure I show you the art that is now in a better place, gone, not to meet their maker, but their founder. The person who will shall the rest of their life-their new admirer. To say it clearly-I have sold some art this year! Rather than tack it into the last journal entry, I’ve decided to make a 2008 sales list. It’ll help me keep track. (mwah ha ha, because it’s wonderfully popular). Yes, it’s great to feel that way sometimes. Often, I go, “that’s nice, achievement made” without really appreciating how awesome that feels. You make art, and if someone else likes it, it is wonderful. I bought an art magazine recently which nominated 50 of the most collectable artists in Australia. I’ve decided I’d like to be on that list. Of course, I’d like to remain anonymous so I can walk down the street, and have an agent…other than that, no clue as to how it will happen, just that I need to keep painting. Anyhoo. I went rollerblading once. It felt so good, I thought I could do this forever. It was like-I’m good at this, I can do it-I’m going fast, not falling over: I could be an olympic racer. Totally normal. Totally human to dream. However dreams require effort. Here are some of the dreams I put into reality, shared with the world and belong in other hands. As of 2008. building a bridge-maroon dots / summer flow.+ / Gallery 26 second opening texture of sound / Fish face / the big O-yeah / clean to Damian / pulses of knowing to Rob / red eye to Rob / butterfly type twp to Teresa / “woodley”: to Rob / ! thank Robs-your a fantastic patron!

Having enthusiastically bought my DSLR some months ago I was looking forward to years of hassle free shooting with my sparkling new camera. However….something I was not aware of has caused me a small amount of frustration over the last few months. That certain something was DUST! It manages to get in EVERYWHERE! I had assumed that the exposed lens would become dusty, obviously. This is easy fixed with a lint-free cloth. However when small spots started appearing on my lovely images I was annoyed to say the least, I cleaned my lens (both sides) and still the spots persisted. I did a little online research and found that dust on the sensor was probably the culprit. The dust manages to seep into the lens even if you NEVER take the lens off your camera. Its inevitable. As the sensor is a sensitive piece of equipment I was reluctant to attempt cleaning it myself. You can buy home sensor cleaning kits for around £60 (YES I was shocked too) but I just put up with it for the time being. Once I bought my new lens I began switching them when needed. This also inevitably introduces more dust into the camera. Now it has reached the point where I cannot ignore the spots. I looked into it and I can get a sensor clean/light service for around £15. I would prefer to get it done by a pro than risk messing it up with my big fingers. Its going into the shop tomorrow for the service. Will take only an hour so I’m happy. So…....there are several things I have learned that you aren’t told on the box when you buy your DSLR. Here are a few of my self-learned tips *No matter what you do, DUST will ALWAYS get into your camera somehow* So every DSLR beginner will need to read on If you are buying a DSLR and can afford it aim to buy a camera that has an auto sensor cleaning function. The Canon EOS 400 has such a feature that vibrates the dust from the sensor every time the camera is switched on. Not absolutely fool proof as any dust still remains inside the camera housing – BUT – it massively reduces the sensor dust. If you have multiple lenses you can minimise dust on your sensor by having more than one camera body. One per lens if you can afford it. Less removals = less dust in your housing. If you don’t have money to burn and like me have only one DSLR camera body then if you do have to switch lenses then TURN THE CAMERA UPSIDE DOWN when you do. This ensures all the dust falls away from the sensor while the lens is switched. If you use photo-editing software such as CS3 then one or two spots are easy to remove with a touch-up tool. If you can tolerate them just leave them until you have too many to ignore. When you switch lenses you can use an air blower to remove any dust from the housing before you replace your lens. Its a personal preference how you clean your sensor – however I prefer a professional do it. Its your choice. Hope these tips help some of you – as I say I was totally unaware of the menace that is DUST when I bought my DSLR. It is something your going to have to deal with. So best learn how to do this. All of these tips should help you minimise your / I’m sure other RB readers will have additions to these tips – as I say I am still learning. So please if you have a tip – let us know about it.

This just came to me as i was commenting on someones photo …........why do we like and use photographs so much i asked myself ? well i think it,s all about capturing a moment in time especially if that time is not coming round again forever. There are many things that dont exist now that existed say 50 yrs ago and many shots were not taken like thay are now , so pictures were lost in someones archive or stolen or destroyed in fire etc. Capturing a moment in time has great meaning to us especially if it is a child or a pet growing up and you want to capture every year of that souls physical life . / On the other hand perhaps we are so attached to images and that in effect is what we are exposed to with every day in the modern world, from the internet to tv, to advertising bill boards , i could go on and on. Many people say image is everything these days but as we look at a living object, what are we looking at ? just the physical, or does something strike us deeper within the spirit of that living object, what makes us who we are ?, perhaps it is the combination of both the spirit and the body . But alas I find the world of the Spirit and the Body so unbalanced in this modern world , we are so focused on the physical that we miss whats the true living being behind the physical mask. / I feel this physical world is such a tiny part of what this “Game of Life” is truly all about and in a few years to come i feel we shall see science work within the spiritual realms and reveal our true image. So when we take our photos maybe we should just try and feel whats deeper than the physical image we are trying to convey , whats the deeper meaning behind it ? HAPPY MOMENTS !

So we’ve been given a new assignment called ‘The Body’. And that’s great, you know. I’ve always wanted to photograph people, but there’s a problem: I have no one to photograph. I mean, if the assignment’s called the body then in photography that often means the naked body, and it does in this assignment to because we’ve already been given other photographers to look at and they all photograph nude dudes and dudesses. but I hardly think anyone’s going to be wanting to pose nude for me. No matter how much I tell them it’s for arts sake, which it is. They’ll probably think I’m just being a pervert… couldn’t they have waited until I acquired some open minded (female) friends until they gave us this assignment.

Today I am working on designing a visual theme for a book written by a Malaysian lady about her sister, Lily. The story, which we have titled ‘Tired of this sick body’, is about Lily’s struggle with cancer. It is a brief summary of her journey through the five stages of terminal cancer: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and then ultimately the acceptance of death. A short yet powerful journey, this project is full of potential, yet visually communicating the story’s spiritual and emotional depth will be a difficult challenge.

Finally shot some pictures at Bodie Ghost Town off of Highway 395 at the California/Nevada border. Been wanting to shoot this historical landmark since 2005. Never believed much in rumors/Curses nor bad luck until that shoot. I did respect the park by not taking anything except maybe 500 Pictures. Maybe that was enough to piss off the Ghosts that may still reside there.

I have recently decided that my work would be very suitable to help raise money for cervical cancer, which i had a nasty close shave with not long ago… / I have decided to create a series of photographic images using the vagina, which i will then go on to sell, donating 50% or more to cervical cancer research… anyways i will need lots of bubbly free spirited and willing lady’s (Sydney Based) to volunteer their beautiful bits for the photographs… no faces or any other body parts will be included in the photos! I want all sorts of different vagina’s ranging in size color and style so don’t be shy to get urs out, they are all unique and thats what makes each of them special and beautiful!! you lady’s will also be asked to bring 2/3 significant item of clothing/underwear/fabric or whatever else that you believe conveys your vagina’s personality.. the images will be black and white apart from your vagina (all Vagina’s will be tinted your shade of pink for cancer research kind of like the pink bow for breast cancer) and the item / I wont be able to offer money for the models as this is a fund raising piece but you can all go away with a good conscience knowing that you have contributed to saving vagina’s world wide!!! I actually do not have a digital SLR myself so if anyone is interested in lending me one and being present during the shoot (in case i get confused with how to use it… ;? ) if not this is ok i am sure i will be able to find a willing friend… anyway i wont be getting on with the photography until i have sorted out my web site and gotten onto cervical cancer research about how best to do this, but just thought i should plant the seed of interest amongst the artistic ladies of the Sydney community who may be interested… p.s. if anyone else is interested in donating their services i.e. free/discounted printing of images framing ect or anything else you can think of it would be much appreciated lots of love Emma oooppps i mean Miss Vagina Head!!! (hate to have to say this but i trust no one else will try to copy my particular vagina ideas..)

I have to say, that as much as I love the human form, I love to do life drawing as well.. but time and time again, I see drawings or photos of womens bodies and not their faces just the torso. This brings me to Rene Magrittes “Rape”... still I feel some are drawing, taking photos etc of the womans body, and not seeing the person… would love to see art where it talks about the whole woman and not just their jugs and fannies.
