  • The complete and real title is : “Poupée – InnerSelf”. I asked to myself : Stars… They bright the sky, our eyes, our mind & soul. They are inside of us. We always look for them, for these glimpses of lights and happiness. / Do we really know ourselves? / Do we realize that we have all of this inside of us? / What are we in fact? / As we don’t really look in the correct place, we don’t really know ourselves i decided to ‘almost’ delete the face. • Piece Two in my HSC body of Work. The series in total is called “Ascendancy” which means domination or influincing figure, but also has connotations to the ascention of Mary in Christianity. Basically what i tried to do was to show how humanity’s expression of faith has changed, evolved, or even stayed the same. “The Temptation” refers to the temptation of Christ by the devil (40 nights in the desert, etc) Compressed Charcoal on Paper / size: approx. 80×40 cms I would like to thank the wonderful photographer who allowed me to use his brilliant photographs as references throughout the series: mehmet turgut . His page on DeviantART is (http://mehmeturgut.deviantart.com/) and the link to the particular photo for this piece is (http://mehmeturgut.deviantart.com/art/gravity-part-2b-26768855)

  • A COLLABORATION WITH LINAJI / (Thank you very much for your excellent poem) Where Do You Love From…Really / Author: linaji Where Do You Love From? / Your pink painted toes? / Or the hollow of your sighs / As my tongue journeys unabashedly / Down the silk trails of your thighs Does my latent life scream Onlyness? / Echo Eons from the heart / Where do you / Love from / Live From / Darling / When do we ever start? History has changed much / Now that Eve did eat the snake, / She brought about apples only / For mother’s pie in Adam’s wake Where do you Love from / Really? / The marrow of your bones? / Is longing, loving and living here / A pirates chest of stones? What about your fingertips? / Dipping softly into my flesh, / Do I utter sighs with beggars eyes / Or do I let our two lips mesh? Do you feel from what is stillness / A time when lovers care, / Do you ooze the sweet-laced vapors? / That my focus on you dares, That moan / That cry / That primal stare / That leads me inside you / Elusive hips that ride your smile / And worlds outside the Que. / A passions mist that takes our lips / A fog beyond compare, / I lay here spent with one leg bent / And dream with you I dare.. Now,, Where do you Love from,,,, / Really. FROM PARIS SERIES: / UNE FEMME PENSIVE / GLAMOUR / / BELLE PARISIENNE / / CHARLESTON / / / BELLE DE JOUR / / / FEMME EN BLEU /

  • I’m sort of feeling creative lately.. but not sure what to do about it. So as usual, I covered my stupid face in makeup and took stupid pictures. :D I’m not sure that I really actually like it.. the colors are nice, but it didn’t exactly come out the way I wanted. Somewhat inspired by the Ethiopian Omo people It’s Body paint, eye shadow and a bindi. More from this series: / © Jessica Walker 2009

  • Acryllic + Ink on Canvas 50×60cms Painted specifically for the Mirrors Exhibition ‘09 / A Charity Art Exhibition Benefitting the Butterfly Foundation / “Beauty is not just an image, it’s a feeling” / Currently on at the Mori Gallery in Sydney. Whilst What If I’m A Mermaid… is an obvious reference to the subject of the painting, it’s also a line from one of my favourite songs by Tori Amos, which is as open to interpretation & woven with different meanings & messages as this painting perhaps is… there are threads in both to which i feel we can all on some level relate. When it came to elaborating on what those messages were or are for the sake of the exhibtion… Well… I wrote one artists statement… followed by another… and then another… and another. Somewhere around 10 i decided to stop… It was not that i was unhappy with a single one of them, quite the opposite, each seemed to inspire another thought, i’d tilt my head & see yet another perspective, many of which weren’t even conscious in my mind whilst painting… / What it made me realise was that more than anything this painting was not so much about me expressing or conveying my thoughts, nor was there a singular message that i want or wanted people to be taken from it… purely & simply it was aimed at inspiring thought in a different circle… & so rather than cloud that thought with words, i decided to let you ponder… “What If I’m A Mermaid…” More on Mirror’s soon
