This yellow dory was tied to the wharf for the winter. The boat launch had quite a steep angle to it… you can see the ocean far below, so the dory was secured with these blue ropes.I loved the contrast between the yellow boat and the blue ropes holding it securely. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / laminated print / /
/ Leilani at Sea / Dingy Daisy Leilani at Sea was created on textured canvas paper using an array of mediums including ink, pastel, acrylics and charcoal. The colours shown here are from the original painting. I am a great lover of boats and being out to sea, far far away!

The North Sea at Whitby. The Herring boats at misty dawn, / To get the details of the boats correct, I’ve used a Victorian photo as the subject. I liked the very hard pen ink lines of the foreground, contrasting with the soft, misty, wet-in-wet background. 90 lb watercolour, medium rough paper. / 12”x8”

Taken at Rhyll early in the morning when the tide was way out. On the way back from Cowes to Woolamai I thought I might stop by Rhyll as I had never been there before even after all the years we had a house there. I spotted this boat tied up in the mud and couldn’t resist a shot. My shoes sank into the mud real deep and had to give the tripod a good clean. Taken with my Canon 40D with polarising and graduated filters. Featured in the All About Boating group on the 19th of April 2009 One of the photos in my Phillip Island series, please click here to see the rest of my images in the series
Watercolour 18 X 12 inches. / On 140lb paper. 1850’s shipping at Scarborough. / The foremost topsail schooner, on the wet sand, is the Little Henry. From an 1850’s photo.
Acrylic on stretched canvas 10 inch x 10 inch Original SOLD I was painting this yesterday when there was snow falling outside. Guess I wanted to think about summer and warmth. This has a very British seaside feel to it. I remember trips to the seaside when I was a child. Metal painted buckets with jolly seaside scenes on them, metal spades with wooden dowel handles…packets of paper flags to pop into those sandcastles. Why did the egg sandwiches always get sand in them? / Anyway this lady here seems to have quite a bit of her own buoyancy.
Boat Hull Series in closeup. Photograph taken by © Alixzandra 09 / I loved the bold yellow of the (newly painted) top half against the grainy painted textures of the bottom of the hull, after it had been stripped back to repaint. /
