This yellow dory was tied to the wharf for the winter. The boat launch had quite a steep angle to it… you can see the ocean far below, so the dory was secured with these blue ropes.I loved the contrast between the yellow boat and the blue ropes holding it securely. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / laminated print / /

Lakes entrance is a fishing port and tourist town located on the Southeastern coast of Victoria, Australia. It is near a natual channel which connects the Gippsland Lakes to Bass Straight. The town has been a popular holiday destination for generations of Victorians, yet has managed to retain its smalltown rural charm. Surfing on the nearby Ninety Mile Beach is a popular attraction, as is fishing from the many piers and bridges in the area. Family entertainment such as minigolf and the popular Shell Museum cater to all ages. This sunset was truly one of the most magnificent I’ve ever seen. Everyone in the town stopped to watch the spectacle and I shot many dozens of photos, trying to capture the glorious warm golden light that flooded the river. This is also my most successful attempt at a High Dynamic Range photo. I took three exposures at different settings to try and capture a broader range of detail in the highlights and shadows, and manually merged them together in photoshop.

I wasn’t sure about uploading this one but I decided to because this was the easiest infrared picture I have ever processed. I channel swapped the colours and that is all….I haven’t done anything else to it. Normally I have to play with levels and heaps of other stuff to get the blues right and the white actually white, but for some reason this one didn’t need any adjusting at all…not sure why. Here are the camera details in case you’re curious… Camera: FujiFilm FinePix S7000 / Date: 16-02-2008 @ 11:46AM / Location: Kurnell – just around the corner from where Captain Cook landed. This image was created at the Apollo Bay Docks early in 2008, went here for a holiday just as I was getting into Photography. I went down to the docks just as a storm was rolling in and it made for some interesting weather conditions! This pic was created from one raw file. I changed the exposures in Lightroom and then merged 3 images using Photomatix, increased the blue and green saturation levels in Lightroom and added a bit of contrast. This is the result! The Icelandic Harvester. / / When I came across this old vessel moored to the pier my imagination started running wild with scenarios of what life aboard this wooden vessel would have been like. I could almost feel the sineous texture of the ropes as they hung there coated in the ice cold saltwater of the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. I could nearly hear the calls of the sailors as they shouted commands back and forth across her weather beaten decks as the waves crashed down upon her on any one of her numerous voyages. What sights must have been seen as sailors of old lined the rails to peer down at the mysteries of the sea. A photo of St-Simeon’s pier, the most beautiful place I saw when I went for my little 3 days trip.While taking this shot ,a nice couple on a moto talked to me ,I ask for a little auberge to sleep for the night and they decided to invite me to their home.That’s Quebec,I would have done the same but it was a first for me…couldn’t believe it.I sent some photos by email and they were very happy.They are living at five minutes from there in a beautiful place called La Malbaie near the St-Lawrence river.The same day in the afternoon I took «Pointe-au-Père» and in the evening the sky became lavander blue,a real dream. / / /

Small jetty and boat-shed at Nelson on the Glenelg river in Victoria South Australia. Property of the ‘River Vu’ caravan park. A dull and cloudy day with rain and wind made for a successful black and white conversion of a three shot HDR – converted in Photomatix. Canon 400D 17-85 lens with three shot HDR hand held.

Fishing Boats at the Smithton Wharf. / Duck River NW Tasmania I don’t really know much about Orton. When to use it, when not to. I stumbled across how to do it in NX2 so thought I would give it a shot and found a nice light, bright and airy shot to give it a go. / I think it came up OK but don’t be afraid to tell me if I have made some mistakes.
