This is a framed 14”x 12” acrylic painting on watercolour cold pressed paper of Long Island at the Whitsundays in Queensland, Australia. My first acrylic painting. Painted to keep the memory alive of a holiday my husband and I took there earlier this year. The sea was calm and sparkling with the sun’s reflection, and the day was warm and peaceful. If I made a seachange from the country this is where it would be to. This is nature at its best! There are four main lakes, Lake Menindee, Lake Cawndilla, Lake Pamamaroo, and Lake Wetherell created from a series of natural depressions that filled during floods. The Menindee Lakes and Darling River were a lifeline for early explorers and it was thought the Darling would provide a means to develop Australia’s interior. The flows of the river proved to be unreliable causing difficulties with navigation and water supply and the idea of using the Menindee Lakes for water conservation was born in the late 1890s. Today the lakes and dams create a welcome water haven in the arid Outback landscape as well as a bird-watchers paradise where bird watching tours are highly recommended.

because it represents the Journey of Life, and here it can represent for you the beginning of a new year, a chance to start over and begin anew, leaving behind the old things and beginning a brand new journey, it is a good time to think about your goals for the coming year and write them down / Feb Seasons / This one comes next as a reminder that for everything, there is a season, a time to live, a bash yourself up and become embittered by it…sometimes people have unclear motives and you are best not to pay to much attention to their choice of words..and what they have spoken over you can be a is my soul…the soul/spirit….this is on a blue day, a day when i think large thoughts and ponder the universe…a reminder of the times when sometimes we need a quiet place and a little music to space out for a while under the stars and moon and gain a little perspective on things…..go and live in another place in your mind’s eye for a little while, i often transport myself to the beach and lie on my towel on the sand, absorbing the suns rays, and feel a trillion zillion times better after that…....or i deliver myself to a deserted island where sky meets water in an endless aqua haze, a soft “Lokahi,” meaning unity, / to be expressed with harmony; “Oluolu,” meaning agreeable, / to be expressed with pleasantness; “Haahaa,” meaning humility, / to be expressed with modesty; “Ahonui,” meaning patience, / to be expressed with perseverance. These are traits of character that express the charm, warmth and sincerity of Hawaii’s people. It was the working philosophy of Native Hawaiians and was presented as a gift to the people of Hawaii. “Aloha” is more than a word of greeting or farewell or a salutation. “Aloha” means mutual regard and affection and extends warmth in caring with no obligation in return. “Aloha” is the essence of relationships in which each person is important to every other person for collective existence. “Aloha” means to hear what is not said, to see what cannot be seen and to know the unknowable. Iliki was also heavily inspired by the novel “Hawaii” by James Michener / Nov Thoughts Become Things / A reminder that Thoughts do become Things, so take time to ponder your thoughts and where they may lead, don’t spend too much time rushing about, sit and be still for a time, allow your mind to fill with new ideas and ways to achieve them, keep up your creative spirit…enchant me, enchant others…bring life to old things…bring joy to others / Dec Cross Your Heart / Remember others, be otherly…but remember to take care of your own heart first, so that it is well and whole and healthy….strive for goodness and kindness and loveliness…our world is troubled, hasn’t it always been though….but through this be a light and a beacon to others, for what other reason is there than this…. take care of you, so that you can share your wellness, creativity, love for life and encouragement with others… and goodness and kindness will follow….like karma….and even when it doesn’t seem to, remember always, that you have deposited some good…and this is enough :) Other Christmas cards and art by Karin /

I will sneak out in the middle of a summer night / And ride the old bay gelding, / Across the moonstruck meadow / If my old bones will allow / And when people come to call, I will smile and nod / As I walk past the gardens to the barn / and show instead the flowers growing / inside stalls fresh-lined with straw. Artwork from Ireland. (Original painting has been done in Acrylics on board) / A summer scene in my hometown of Galway which is on the west coast of Ireland. This was my first ever painting of my own subject matter and I did it in acrylics when I was about 18 years old. I’ve done it in a ‘pointillist’ style as I am very influenced by the French post-Impressionist painters and most particularly, Georges Seurat (1855-1891) who invented the post-impressionist style of ‘Pointillism’ and influenced Signac to paint in the same style. I completed this painting after completing a replica of one of Georges Seurat’s paintings – ‘The Seine at La Grande Jatte’. It was for a college assignment. We were to firstly pick a painting from a great Master, replicate it then do a painting of a similar subject matter using the same style. Pointillism is use of complementary coloured dots placed adjacent to each other or slightly overlapping to create extra colours while viewed from a distance. In a sense it is like optical colour mixing and a study of light. The effect that is created is what Seurat referred to as ‘emotion. This particular scene (my interpretation of Seurat’s ‘Pointillist’ style) is of ‘The University College Boat Club’ in Galway. Galway is a small city in the west of Ireland and is my hometown, so where better to start for an interesting subject matter. In the background, you’ll see some red pre-fabricated buildings and because this was painted many years ago, these pre-fabs no longer exist. In fact there is quite a large building there now. There is no doubting the fact with their stocky appearance, sweeping horns and eyes that peep out through long shaggy fringes, Highland Cattle win hearts and are favorites amongst animal lovers around the World. What isn’t so obvious is the hardiness of this ancient breed. Sun on your face, a song in your heart / Spirits are lifted at nature’s art / All is quiet not even a sound / Only then you realise Sanctuary is found. What a magic and fabulous place to visit. Two yachts race up the mouth of the Hunter River into Newcastle Harbour, New South Wales. The image was captured with a 6 MP Sony Cyber-Shot and then processed in Paint Shop Pro. I duplicated the original layer and applied a number of filters to it to make it resemble an impressionist painting. I then tweaked the tones to highlight certain parts of the scene.
