Whiskeytown Lake, West of Redding, CA taken this morning 03/23/08. Heading West on HWY 299 from Redding CA, this is just a short and beautiful drive; well known due to the dedication in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy; this is gorgeous man made lake with excellent fishing. Species include but are not limited to Bass, Crappie, and Trout….Excellent swimming areas set aside for just that by the Parks department, and excellent camping available in well maintained camp sites. Two young girls enjoying a late afternoon pony ride along a beach. “PHOTO INFORMATION” Photo taken on Jan 18/09 at 4:49pm. / Camera; Canon 40D / Lens; Canon 100-400 f 4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens. / Tripod; Manfrotto, including joystick head. / Taken at 1/640’s at f/11, 400mm, manual col bal 6700 kelvin, iso 800 Shot in Raw, downloaded to Lightroom and edited to create a simplified painterly effect. Exported to Photoshop CS2, where I did a shadows/highlight adjustment, than added a water color filter and adjusted the layer opacity to 65%, than upped contrast to + 10. I should note that I also hand painted the smallest girl’s riding hat from blue to black, as well as some small areas on the pony, including parts of the pony’s bridal. It’s really too bad that Redbubble’s large preview is so limited. It would be nice to be able to magnify at least some areas of any given photo to 100%, so as to get a better impression.

View out across Bellingham Bay at the Lummi Islands, from Larrabee State Park, a state park in Washington, located six miles (10 km) south of the city of Bellingham. It was the first state park to be created in Washington. Larrabee State Park had its beginnings in 1915, when the Larrabee family donated 20 acres of land to the state with the intent that it be made into a park. In 1923, the new park was officially named after Charles Xavier Larrabee. Shot this with my Panasonic point and shoot camera. Kyleakin is the first village encountered on the Isle of Skye, when you cross over the bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh…....this is where the old Ferry boat used to land, which I don’t miss at all, romantic it might be, but darned inconvenient !! / The old ruin you can see behind the boats is Castle Moil…......a few facts for you….... “The 14th Century Castle Moil has had many names in its long history. Also known as Dun Akyn (Norse for Hakon’s Fort) and An Caisteal Maol in Gaelic, it is now a romantic ruin. Sited at the Skye end of the road bridge in the village of Kyleakin, the castle has Norse connections. Legend has it that a Norwegian princess, otherwise known as “Saucy Mary”, ordered a chain to be hung from the castle to the mainland so that no boat could pass without paying a tax.” / Nothing new under the sun then, eh ??!! LOL !! A three RAW HDR, shot on my Canon EOS 50D, polarising filter fitted, iso 100, f23, Auto WB, processed in Photomatix, then sprucing up in Adobe Photoshop CS3. / I used HDR because of the extreme light / shadow. MORE FROM MY ISLE OF SKYE SET…..
