As soon as your guide cuts the power to the outboard motor, instantly you become alone and one with the vastness of nothingness. All you hear is the silence of the ripples gently lapping the sides of the boat, and an occasional cry of a white ibis flying back to its nest. The vastness of the river, vivid colors of the sunset and the gentle soothing sounds of the wilderness in dying twilight – all of it puts together an experience, which you can only wish to take away with you. Today’s holga upload is another shot of this sweet little row boat floating on the glassy stillness of this little dam. The little white shapes in the background near the water are white sulphur crested cockatoos that have come to have a drink in the cool early morning before they get about the business of being busy and raucous for the rest of the day…. and seriously there is nothing as ear splitting as a bunch of cockatoos in full voice….. worse than a mach truck or a harley revving in the next room…. pretty though even if they are the delinquents of the bird world…....

Saratoga is a beautiful part of Brisbane water and quite a number of people anchor their boats in the waters here. The cluster of boats near the boat ramp has caught my eye a number of times in the past and this time the background sunset I think really set the scene. This image was taken with a NIkon D300 using the 18-200 VR lens and was spot metered just above the main cluster of boats which I think balanced the image exposure perfectly. While not the full sunset colours the sky had taken on the golden glow nicely. Featured in Central Coast and Hunter
