A sailboat under full sail
Anchored sailboat on a hazy evening.
Star of the Sea by Karin Taylor is a card taken from an original painting on canvas textured paper using mixed media, ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. From the Beach Series Here we have a spunky mermaid with a guitar slung over her back, lazing about on the deck of her timber boat…....taking some time off on this occasion, from luring sailors and ships to her watery lair…... there is something of the Madonna about her… hence the name ‘Star of the Sea’

The wreck of the collier brig, the Harriet Wandle. Built in 1860 at Sunderland. / The victim of the cruel North Sea. I took the shipwreck details from an actual Victorian photo of the time. This took longer to paint and finish off, than all my other ship paintings put together! Sketched in pencil, and watercolour painted on drawing paper 120gsm. / Size 17”x11”.

This was taken on a very foggy day at Long Cove near West Pennant, Nova Scotia, Canada. / / It was named “Cat Fish Blues” because it looks like the boat had jumped out of the water, and because of the feeling of sadness or loneliness it invoked in me. / / Subscribe to art updates / Subscribe to T-shirt updates / Become a fan on FaceBook / Add me as a friend on FaceBook / Follow me on Twitter This is a new version of an old image. The old version had a lot of post production that may have been too much. I liked the look of it when it is small, but looking back and seeing it enlarged I prefer the more subtle treatment on this version. / / Cat Fish Blues II is available in all print formats offered by RedBubble. / /
Inspired by a picture of an Italian Port with its array of colors and disarray of boats. This painting reminds me of the first time I went to Europe after college and the incredible and freeing adventure of discovering new places. Top 10 finish in the “Colored Pencil Art at its Best” challenge in First Things 11×17 watercolor enhanced colored pencil on 140 lb, rough surface watercolor paper. Original owned.
This perfect scene was taken at Robe, South Australia, Australia on Australia Day this year (in summer). This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera. My sister, Nadia, kindly purchased, on redbubble, a large framed print with a black frame, of this shot, for her husband, Michael (my brother-in-law) for his birthday. Many thanks indeed.
The annual Heritage Afloat Festival at Toronto on the shores of Lake Macquarie. The festival showcases many fine examples of boats including steam driven, sail and rowing boats spanning back over the last hundred years. I added a sepia filter effect and a tinting layer in Paint Shop Pro to give the image a muted, aged look. Photograph taken using a 6 MP Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S500.
A digital photograph of a little steamboat engine, transformed to resemble a pencil sketch using various effects in Paint Shop Pro. The photograph was taken at the Maritime Festival in Toronto, New South Wales.

This image is submitted for a Challenge in the Around the World Group. Originally shot in RAW, 3 frames, +2,0,-2 EV’s and tonemapped in Photomatix to give HDR effect. Canon 400D To emphasise the boat in the image I have added some grunge textures which I feel are in keeping with the subject. This boat, or what is left of it, sits on the perimeter of Bembridge Harbour, Isle of Wight, England. I regret that I do not know the history of the boat. 223 views at 2nd January 2010 Featured in ‘Grunge Photography’ Group 3rd December 2009 Featured in ‘Around the World’ Group 4th December 2009 Featured in ‘Dimensions’ Group 5th December 2009 Featured in ‘UK Visions’ Group 9th December 2009 Top Ten Challenge Placing ’ Around the World’ Group, December 2009
