  • Ice Breaker
    by Kevin Kroeker

    US$3.71–US$98.80

The Icelandic Harvester. / / When I came across this old vessel moored to the pier my imagination started running wild with scenarios of what life aboard this wooden vessel would have been like. I could almost feel the sineous texture of the ropes as they hung there coated in the ice cold saltwater of the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. I could nearly hear the calls of the sailors as they shouted commands back and forth across her weather beaten decks as the waves crashed down upon her on any one of her numerous voyages. What sights must have been seen as sailors of old lined the rails to peer down at the mysteries of the sea. How many men were lost at sea and how many made it home with wild stories of his adventure aboard the Icelandic Harvester. / / Shot with a Canon 400D and processed in Lightroom 2. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /

  • We enjoyed the mellow dusk settle on this perfect anchorage with pints of beer in hand, outside the renowned Forge inn, (officially Britains remotest mainland pub). The tiny scottish hamlet of Inverie is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. We had crossed to the unspoilt area of the knoydart peninsula by ferry from Mallaig for some amazing walking (see the series of 3 pics on heartbeat ridge . The sights on arrival were just captivating with wildflowers galore, deer roaming gardens, peacocks roosting (see bird in a tree and I also got the precious shot of morning gems. Hopefully more pics to follow…

  • Sunset Moorings #1
    by Dennis Gay IPA

    US$17.10–US$456.00

This beautiful river scene sunset was photographed from the south bank of the Hastings River at the Boundary Street Ferry Wharf in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a mid-winter’s day. Milady Fuji was sitting high and proud on her tripod, with the White Balance set to Sunny due to the glare from the sky and nearest boat, the ISO to 100 for the good Image Quality and to minimise Noise, and with Spot Metering, Centre Focussing, Continuous Focus and Fast Shooting settings completing the set-up. / I chose the 1/500sec Shutter Speed in Shutter Priority as I had some previous success using this setting on some sunset shots and found it helps control the Exposure very well in these conditions as well as freezing any motion quite well. / (Fortunately it froze the flying Pelican. Can you spot him?) :) / After an earlier test shot under the same conditions and a check of the Histogram, I found I did not need any Exposure Compensation. / After I set the Timer to 2 seconds, I pre-focussed on the brightest area on the nearest boat, framed the shot, locked the tripod, squeezed the trigger and after the “Beep! Beep! Beeeeep! Kachunk!” … here it is! Find out more about Port Macquarie if you wish. Visit the Sunrise-Sunset collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more sunny scenes. • honfleur
    by dinghysailor1

    US$2.85–US$76.00

The wonderful little normandy port of Honfleur in France at the mouth of the river Seine.(it’s best viewed LARGE for detail). To access by boat you tie up and wait for them to close the road, lift up the bridge pass through a loch and this is what awaits !(I had the good fortune to be a lastminute stand in crew on a wonderful yacht recently… huge happy sailor grins … :)))) It’s an absolutely stunning place with its rich artistic and historical heritage wonderfully preserved! It is also the place from which a Samuel de Champlain left in 1608 for the ’ New World’ and he went on to found the city of Quebec and 400th anniversary celebrations are currently underway… I might have wished to capture all sail boats in this wonderful settting… but took comfort from the fact that everyone on that huge motor launch had to take their shoes off at the door to protect the carpets ..teehee! • / Calypso’s Quest by Karin Taylor / from the Beach Stuff Series / this is mixed media collaged piece / i have used acrylics and guache, watercolours, cut out paper / to form the sails and the hull This song is about the ship Calypso, which was bought by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and converted to an oceanographic ship. Cousteau wanted to understand “The silent world” better, in order to protect it. “To live on the land we must learn from the sea” – Cousteau was the first to do research on pollution and its effects on the sea and received many honors for his accomplishments. John Denver cared deeply about nature and this song was a tribute to both Calypso and her captain and their valuable work. (thanks, Marthe – Amsterdam, Netherlands) Calypso” Lyrics / To sail on a dream, on a crystal clear ocean, / To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm; / To work in the service of life and the living / In search of the answers to questions unknown; / To be part of the movement and part of the growing, / Part of beginning to understand . . . Aye, Calypso, the places you’ve been to, / The things that you’ve shown us, / The stories you tell; / Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit, / The men who have served you / So long and so well. Like the dolphin who guides you, / You bring us beside you / To light up the darkness and show us the way; / For, though we are strangers in your silent world, / To live on the land we must learn from the sea; / To be true as the tide and free as the wind-swell, / Joyful and loving in letting it be . . . / John Denver / Album: Windsong

  • Shallow moorings
    by Freda Surgenor

    US$4.28–US$114.00

This is a painting of old working boats moored on the Georges River in Sydney, Australia. / It is painted in watercolour on paper. I love old working boats. These are full of character and age. They belonged to the fishing boats that plied Botany Bay before fishing was banned there due to depleted stocks. I used to go down to the moorings both first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening when you get completely different light on the boats. And in the evening you were rewarded by the sound of the fishermen calling to each other as they prepared for the night’s fishing. Now they are gone and I do miss them. Fortunately I have many photos to remind me of those days. See more of Freda’s works: / Boats / City / Fractals / Stillife / Figures Freda’s website
