The tide was out leaving the wonderful colourful boats in St. Ives Harbour. In my original shot on the site I cropped the buildings out as they distracted from the boats but I wanted to leave them in this time as I believe it has added something to the shot. Now I have turned it into a photograph painting, what are your thoughts and comments on it? Knot of rope securing boat to Harbour, Looe Cornwall England
Taken on a recent stay in Looe, Cornwall. I wanted to shoot into the sun for a dramatic effect.
Watercolour
Taken at Looe Quay, SE Cornwall, England, December ‘07. / It had just been raining, which I think, adds to the enhancement of the picture. / No PS work in this. As Is. Thanks for looking. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm lens.
When I think of Cornwall, my mind is never far from the many old unspoilt fishing villages dotted round it’s rugged coastline. As with Polperro on the South coast, it’s narrow streets are of cobbled construction and too narrow for cars, so it’s sleepy atmosphere is the perfect way to get away from the stress of modern city life. Late afternoon light.
Another of my favourite little Cornish fishing villages, Mousehole, (pronounced MOW as in COW then ZILL) is on the Western end of Mounts Bay not far from Lands End. Like so many old Cornish fishing villages, the houses are densely packed in around the harbour and narrow streets are a joy to stroll round and soak in the atmosphere.
Mevagissey is another of my favourite little Cornish Fishing villages, situated in St. Austell Bay on the South coast of the county. Still a thriving fishing port but over recent years it has become a popular holiday destination and quite a number of the old fisherma’s cottages around the harbour are now used as Summer holiday homes with a view of the harbour and bay. /
Taken looking upstream from the harbour on the Looe River, Looe, Cornwall, in the evening sun, just before sunset. Hope you like it. / Think you for looking. Pentax K110D. / Sigma 70-300mm Lens.
This is the ramp at the Lizard RNLI Station, the ramp which this craft slides down when going to a rescue. I was very lucky to get this shot, as the general public are not allowed in this particular area of the station, but a bit of ‘blagging’ got me down onto the ramp. / Thanks for looking. / Hope you like it.
Sennen Cove near Lands End Cornwall with a storm approaching. Re-edited and reposted.
Charlestown Harbour near St Austel was built originally -to serve the Cornish China Clay industry. This old harbour is occasionally used for filming. A low light shot of the boats above the harbour wall in St. Ives, Cornwall. I used a street light to my right and out of the frame as the main source of light and a little bit of flash. I hope you like it and thank you for viewing. I never tire of visiting this beautiful old fishing harbour on Cornwall’s South coast, nothing seems to have changed there in the many years I’ve been visiting it, the old fishermen’s cottages surrounding the harbour are full of old world charm and the narrow cobbled streets are too narrow for cars, the perfect place to get away from the pressure of modern city and busy town life. My first upload since my recent illness and not a new image but a place and subject I so enjoy. / A view of the harbour and outer wall in Polperro, Cornwall, how I am looking forward to going back there as soon as my health allows. / I can’t thank you all enough for the many kind messages and support during my recovery from the heart attack I suffered in August, it has been of great help and I am pleased to say, things are slowly improving and I am feeling much better but still quite a way to get back to my old fitness. Fishing Boats at Cadgwith Cove on the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, England. I wasnt sure which one to upload in full, so I added the colour version so you can see both. Hope you like it. / Thank you for looking. Best Viewed Large. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm lens.
The old boathouse at Cadgwith was used for generations as repair workshop for the many small fishing boats that used to be used for pilchard fishing from the port. These days, most of the boats catch crabs and lobsters but it’s good to see them still using traditional methods that are sustainable for fish stocks. Cadgwith is situated near the Lizard Point on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula and I’m delighted to see it has changed so little in all the years I’ve been visiting it, long may it remain so.
