Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.

“Chairman Of The Board” is a signed, original, oil and acrylic painting. The Native American people are one of my favorite to paint. The colors, the dress, the attitude and expressions of time on their faces is a constant artistic challenge. / My studio is located in Mesquite, Nevada where I create my art, teach students and work on commissioned pieces. I decided I should do a painting to show how I feel about my hands – I have an essential tremor, that is only helped by beta blockers (propanolol) or alcohol! Not very practical but more fun. / Anyway, I find that painting also helps – I am rubbish at straight lines, but I go into a sort of meditative state and my hands relax a bit. / So this is a small painting that took a long time, but was quite therapeutic

Acrylic on canvas board
Acrylic on 6×9 Painting Board I have never painted before. I mean, of course I did stuff when I was a kid, but I haven’t picked up a brush since. I’m so happy with this piece. It sort of signifies my acceptance with what is to come. Today was the worst day of my art career. I pretty much had the biggest breakdown since I started. But this peice helped me through as did so many of you wonderful members. You guys truely are gems. At some point tonight I’m gonna thank each one that responded to my journals individually. Art = Blood, Sweat and tears it seems. And thanks to you guys and your words I feel as if I’m up for the challenge. So enjoy this. Starlight.

Some things you can hardly believe when you see them. I went to school as a structural engineer, and I have to say I’m amazed this house is standing. I went to some pains to make sure the image is vertical, and it’s definitely pretty close. So yes, that lamppost on the left really is leaning like that. This is just a scene captured while on the back streets of Nallihan in central Anatolia. Sometimes I feel like every door I see has a story behind it worth telling. If you look closely there’s a padlock keeping this one shut. What we’ll probably never know is … why?
oil on board..this is an experiment
