  • Off the Blueridge Parkway somewhere near Little Switzerland, NC USA. Mamiya RB67 ProSD. Fujichrome 100

  • The sun slowly sets over the Appalachians of the Smoky Mountains bringing the end to the day. Shot was taken from the Clingmans Dome Parking lot in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park !

  • Taking a few minutes before my “Days End”. The colors are much cooler showing why these are known as the lower Blue Ridge Mountains. The foggy mist is why these particular mountains became known as the Smokys the colors and layers of ridges drew me to this shot. So often in making sunset/sunrise shots photographers shoot one or two shots and move on. This time of day is one of rapidly changing tones. Some of the most dramatic shots can be made after most have left or got there. When the clouds are illuminated by the sun after/before it has pasted the horizon. Those photographers willing to slow down an spend some time will be the ones fully enjoying this time of day when the warm/cool colors met, mingle, and drift apart. As you can see between the 2 shots 2 minutes make a dramatic difference. • Taken when the sun was low and the light was bouncing off the clouds. It was a wonderful day with beautiful light.

  • One of my favorite places to photograph is off the Harry Byrd Flood bridge on the James River. In fact, sometimes I spend hours there hoping for a under fly of geese that I am yet to photograph. What amazes me about this location is that I can go there and always come back with a different photograph. / This is a one exposure hdr made from a single raw image. The lens used was a sigma 10-20 attached to a Nikon D80.

  • Taken from a different vantage point on the Harry Byrd Flood bridge. This depicts a seen of the Blueridge Mountains. The Blueridge is famous for the for its bluish atmosphere that is emitted by hydrocarbons of the surrounding forests. This is a one exposure hdr from a raw capture.

  • “Perhaps love is like a resting place, A shelter from the storm, It exists to give you comfort, It is there to keep you warm, And in those times of trouble, When you are most alone, The memory of love will bring you home” John Denver

  • When brutality and the lust for power must perish by its own sword. Against that time, is why I avoided death, and am here. And why you were brought here. For when that day comes, the world must begin to look for a new life. And it is our hope that they may find it here. / From the movie: “Lost Horizons” This is an HDR made from one raw picture. Toning was done in Photoshop, to emphasis the colors that were already there. The buzzard flying over the horizon is part of the original picture, for anyone who may wonder.

  • The personal life deeply lived always expands into truths beyond itself. / Anais Nin

Clingman in the 1850’s was the first to accurately measure the height of the mountain. The mountain was called Kuwa’hi (the mulberry place) by the Cherokee.
