I was out on my deck tonight playing with the chickadees (again) when this beautiful blue jay landed on my deck railing no more than 4-5 feet away from me. They are normally quite timid but this one seems to be getting accustomed to my presence. This is the first time I was lucky enough to get a half decent shot and this was the ONLY chance I had on this night! Photo taken in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada Canon Rebel XTi | Manual Mode, f/4.0 @ 97mm / Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS Photoshop Edits: removed a few background distractions (thankfully there weren’t many). I also changed the deck rail color tone to blue and faded it out at opposite ends to soften it. / / / Bird Gallery / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST
A semi-companion piece to Mama’s Hands, this shot was taken a long time before the other but it was yet another victim of the “80,000+ Combined Shots Syndrome”: so many folders, so many days, so many interruptions, so many etc. LOL! I haven’t a clue if there are tons of better shots saved in over 500GB of storage between three computers, scores of DVD’s and CD’s, flash drives, xD cards, SD cards, BFD cards… (sigh) Oh well, when I die, someone is going to have to do a LOT of deleting and/or reformatting to be able to store much more than a 12kb smilie anywhere! By the way, Papa has become very comfortable with many of the rest of my co-workers. He comes to their calls, waits for them to get MY peanuts (since they don’t think to get any), and generally asks as tho everyone is his friend now. LOL! The strange part is that almost all of the rest of Weedy Field is branching out as well: Jill allows herself to be seen by others; JJ’s kids come out and beg everyone for peanuts; and best of all, the Crows Family is learning how to trust people enough to get their peanuts before the jays snatch them all away. That’s BIG because they are still feeding their HUMONGOUS “baby” who’s too…uh, chicken to do much more than holler for dad & mom when he see’s us outside. If you ever want to see a disgusted look on a bird, check out a crow who’s trying to open a peanut (while standing over two others) to feed a kid as big as he is while fearless blue jays snatch everything in sight before he can even get a TASTE of one! Crows can actually frown somehow, like furrowing their feathers or something. Anyway, I’ve vowed to start mining my archives… next year. ;-) / __________ / Nikon D80 data~~ / F/5.6 / Exposure 1/160, / ISO-100 / 70-300 mm telephoto (handheld) / Metering: spot

Sitting in my dad’s back yard, I was blessed to see several varieties of birds make a pit stop at his birdbath… This BlueJay was one of the visitors….showing off the beautiful colors of nature….still for a few moments, then he was on his way….

! My image “Blue Jay(Cyganocitta Cristata)” was featured in I Love Birds group on 2 July 2009. ...Also featured in Songbirds of North America group on 3 July 2009… Length:..91/2 in. / What to look for:..pointed crest, black (necklace), bright blue above, with white on wings and tail. Habitat:...woodlands, farmlands, shrubs, and parks. This handsome, noisy bird is known for it’s raucous voice and the wide variety of it’s calls, cries and screams. But like other jays, it also has a “whisper song”, a series of faint whistles and soft, sweet notes delivered from a perch hidden in the foliage. Blue Jays are omnivores, feeding on (among other things) fruits, seeds, nuts, insects, bird’s eggs, small birds, mice, treefrogs, snails, and even fish. In the spring and fall these birds number in flocks that sometimes number in the hundreds. Up in Canada they are a summer and winter resident. >>Information gleaned from Reader’s Digest in their birds in their section. Location: Taken in my backyard here in Charleswood in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi, shutter speed 1/60, Aperture Value 5.6, ISI 200, focal length 235mm
Living in the woods, deep in this winter landscape is not such a cold place if you are a bird. These Blue Jays enjoy the hidden land of ice and snow. One blue jay perched on an old stump with its mate across the frozen pond on another branch are enjoying the morning sunshine. Balsam firs surround this scenic view. The sun is rising above the trees, ready to start another day. This is an imaginary winter landscape. / Painted in oils on canvas board, 11” by 14”
While having breakfast this morning on my patio, I caught this little guy enjoying some snacks that I put out for our feathered friends.
Took this photo of a young bluejay flying around looking for bugs.
