small watercolour painting from my sketch book. I painted this with some cheap watercolour paints which were labelled Brilliant (cant remember the brand) I don’t know how permanent these ones are but I love the bright colours and they got me started in this medium.

views: 3424 / favs: 52 Completed 2004 age 18 I was inspired by the Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju, who tends to limit his colors in his paintings. Sometimes he paints an image where the background is the complimentary colors of the subject. His style is simple but at the same time intense, where the foreground stands out from the complimentary background. Medium: Watercolors This is a painting done in my sketchbook. The paper isn’t watercolor paper, but at least more durable than regular printing paper. In my most recent series: ‘Face Navigation’ , I have used the fluidity of watercolour painting to express a personal perception of self and others. There is an awareness of the universal human condition through facial expression, and in some cases I create a progression of images, exploring the changing perception of a person by deconstructing facial recognition. As there is a shift over time in attitude or mood, there is a corresponding shift in visual interpretation. Sizes variable, average sizes 250×102 mm. Been a while since I did a beakface. This one has a hinged beak! A bit out of shape though. Little – 10×15cm, watercolour, chalk pastel, ink, conte, iridescent blue pigments (on the feather tips) on canvas. / “Yesterday” is part of the Fall Landscape Collection...the song “Yesterday” is one of my favourites and was the inspiration for this painting….my interpretation is not a literal one, but more about the feelings that the lyrics may engender….the song is so inspiring, and as fall is drifting away from us the first thng that came to my mind was that longing for it to last a little longer…the colours I instinctively chose were a blending of the fires of autumn and the cooler blues of winter…as it’s a memory, the image has been softened…..winter has come, frost is on the branches, and we reminisce about the beautiful autumn days that are no longer here... / “Yesterday” is not for mourning, but for looking back at it’s joys, and looking forward to more…..it may be the winter of our lives or the end of a romance, but we all dream of...Yesterday...
